One of my mates bands played at reading, said that the Pearl Jam set was great..

Think he got someone to record the Tv just incase his band got a mention.. if he still has any footage i'll let you know..

And Ten is a top album, remember it comming out, remember being a bit disapointed by the next album.. haven't heard much stuff since then (I went from a indie/grunge/rock stage into more mod/ska/bluesbeat britpop stage... big change in hairstyle he he he)

I've found a Torrent of the footage I'm after.

http://thepiratebay.org/tor/3517951/pearljam_reading_2006.rar

I'd download it myself but I have a NAT problem or something and never seem to be able to solve it. 11 minutes and I only downloaded 53k of it. I'm getting 55 days to download the whole lot.

So, can someone with an Uber connection grab this, stick it on a DVD and send it to me?

Pretty please....

You need a newgroup reader, I know outlook express includes one built in (but not the full version of outlook for some reason?), does Thunderbird have one as well? I don't know what e-mail client you use. Other than that I've used newsbin http://www.newsbin.com/ in the past but you have to pay for that (possibly :innocent:).

You then need to add your ISP's news server, in a similar way to which you would add an e-mail account, and you should then be able to download a list of all the news groups (tens of thousands of them). Any starting "alt.binaries." can contain binary file attachments. For big releases they are usually split over several posts due to post size restrictions on usenet so you have to select the lot and "Download and combine"(??) something like that in outlook express I seem to remember.

Takes some getting used to but news groups can be great for downloading stuff. There's probably people on here who can explain it in a lot more depth than I, I don't know of any good free news readers either. I can give you a "extended free trial" patch for newsbin though if you get that. ;)

You lost me after "You need a newsgroup reader"!

I assume I can't click a link to go directly to it?

No. What happens is these people split a file up into hundreds of 4mb-ish MIME encoded emails, and post them to a usenet discussion group. These groups usually have the word "binaries" in the group name, to suggest that the content posted is usually binary attachments.

OE can download them, but not so well. The messages have to be downloaded, combined back together as one long attachment, then mime-decoded.

Newsbin Pro as suggested by Thorin, or another one which I can't remember, will do a good job.

Google for "usenet binary grabber" or something, and look for tutorials.

Your ISP's newsserver might well not be any good for this. Most ISPs set the retention (how long they keep messages in a particular group) too low for decent large binary downloads.

An old ISP of mine, Onetel, used to sub Supernews servers, and they were fabulous.

Missed this before. Make sure there are actually some seeders, then disable any stupid Internet Security applications you have running, or configure them properly. Enable UPnP on your router, (or forward the ports manually) and try again.

Smarty pants. Looking at that second link that forte agent thing isn't free anymore and I found newsbin much better (at the time anyway), not that that's free either, but well it can be.

Usenet extension for Thunderbird if you use that https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2129/ don't know what built in support is like.

I've set up a newsgroupy thing in Thunderbird using my plusnet news server.

It listed bazillions of groups but I couldn't find an alt.binaries!

Why?

You're right, I've just tried the same thing and it seems plus.net's server doesn't carry any binaries groups? Michael do you use this?

Binary Usenet is used by a small minority of mainly technically savvy customers to download large files. Because very few customers have been using our Binary Usenet service it will no longer be available from 3rd April 2006 onwards.

We will continue to offer an excellent text-only Usenet service and customers can of course continue to use third party binary Usenet feeds and providers.

That'll be why then.
