hay well my supra is up and running, went for a drive today but dosnt seem very fast to me ( i do also ride a gsxr1000) i havnt got the funds ATM to buy a decat, if i remove the inside of my cat will i get the same sort of power gains as a decat? or is this really the wrong way to go

You have to bash the living CRAP out of the internals of the cat... real pain in the ass to do, and you then have to weld the cat closed as well.

The cheap skate way of decatting...

 

Take the cat off the car, open it up.. like a can almost...bash the living death out of the cat internals because they are rock hard...close it up again and weld it...

I've gone down this route before, and to be honest I gave up after hours of drilling, chiseling etc (someone even recommended spraying it with brake cleaner but that didn't work either). If you're considering this then make sure you have a breath mask - the dust that comes out the inside is very nasty. I didn't open up the cat, simply got at it from the ends (1st cat).

 

And even if you do succeed, you'll probably need to weld a pipe through the middle anyway to ensure a good enough airflow. Overall the idea was a right PITA to carry out and not worth the time and effort.

What do people think about a replaceable cat/decat, held on by clamps at each side so that you have a decat pipe most of the time, but come MOT time you take out the straight through pipe section by undoing the two V-band clamps and slot the cat in, then snap the clamps shut to hold it in place????

 

Would take about 5 mins and not need any tools, gaskets or exhaust paste.

I was thinking about something similar the other day - be a good idea and handy, though the cost of a suitable replacement / temporary cat might make it unfeasible

i have done this mate. no need to cut it open. get a drill and put as many holes through it as you can, then use a lever bar to break it all up.

it seems like you are getting no where at first, then it all starts to come out in big lumps

Bob, you could use the original cat & pipework. Cost would be:

 

6 Flanges at £15 each approx

2 clamps at £20 each approx

Piece of stainless pipe same length as cat £10 approx

Fabrication £60 approx

 

Say £200 max.

 

Probably could get it done for less, but that's a maximum estimate.

squiffy when u knocked ya cat out did you have to fit a restrictor ring? trying to find some 1 who has knocked through a cat felt the diffrence then fitted a proper decat and can compare the two

it was on my n/a mate, but have a cat lined up to try it out on the tt.

Why bother though, changing the 2nd cat only takes 10 minutes and is enough to pass an MOT.

Dunno, seemed like a good idea! No nuts, bolts or gaskets & can use the original pipework.....
