RedM
Total respect to the guy, he went the way he would of wanted. I'm guessing he would have preferred to die of old age with his family around him not underwater with pierced heart.

Ok maybe not at the age he was at and what i meant is he would of wanted to die with / in nature. I think from watching so many programs nature was his first love. Class One
I went to Australia Zoo in September 2003, and saw Steve in action. He was truely awe inspiring. When he took over the site, its was a little failing lizard park. The local authority was dead set against his plans and at the time the Aussies didn't think much of his ideas about Croc conservation. He worked really hard to turn the image around that Crocs were unthinking killing machines to the image that Crocs had as much right to be here as us. He was a champion of conservation and a true believer in preserving the planet for future generations. He started as as a typical Aussie stereotype, to becoming a national if not global hero for his work in environmental and ecological issues. He even managed to win round the Aussie population, the most unthinking uncaring un-PC nation on earth. I was truely shocked to learn of his death, but not surprised. At least he went, doing the thing he loved most. He will be missed, but always remembered.
