spackrackman
I am not a Ford lover.. but I did get given a Granada twin cam G reg and I used it for a year and was still going well, before me it had been owned by the entire family (3 sons), hit by a milk float twice and the speedo had packed in on 250,000 three years before! I was impressed. Prob a one off!
Mike M
I couldn't believe how many fiestas and escorts they sold in the 90's, they all sounded like cement mixers until the Zetec come along. Even Ka's have started sounding rattly these days.
ivan
Don't talk to me about bloody Fiesta's! I've been trying to persuade my missus to swap hers for something decent for years. But when she's never even had to replace a bulb in 7 years and has only ever forked out for servicing and tyres, there's no chance of me ever getting a decent little daily runner. Guess I'll just have to keep driving the Supe to work then...
Mike M
7 years? hmmm a broken bumper could almost right it off. That would be dashed unlucky.

Kittyclaws
my fiesta zetec-s was a lovely car that was on an x plate,,,never had one bit of trouble with that,, pukka little motor All fords before Zetec are short lived i think, untill the Zetec showed up,that engine is the mutts nuts, but then it would be because ford didn't design it. Mazda did. when ford took them over, they asked Mazda to come up with an engine for their new line of cars.

Guest festerdave
All fords before Zetec are short lived i think, untill the Zetec showed up,that engine is the mutts nuts, but then it would be because ford didn't design it. Mazda did. when ford took them over, they asked Mazda to come up with an engine for their new line of cars. actually, mazda designed the DURATEC (alloy block, chain driven) not the zetec. aparrently yamaha designed the cylinder head for the ZETEC SE, thats the little alloy puma/fiesta,focus alloy engine. ford did "re-badge" the last zetecs as duratecs for the focus rs/st170 but it's a zetec E with a new rocker cover and a badge! and to confuse matters worse, the duratec is also known as i4, which is the designation of the twin cam from the granada/sierra/mk5-6 rs2000! yes, i am a ford anorak. Pete
At the end of the day they're built and designed to a price like all large scale production models, which means shortcuts in specification and price to remain competitive which each other. Longivity is not in their best interest.

stupra
I've had a couple of Fords, an never had any probs with them, though I don't tend to have cars very long, so maybe the next owner got the shit. .
firepool
ive got a escort turbo diesel v reg '99 and have to say it has been a reliable car during the 3 yrs ive had it. Usual things have worn thru wear n tear like the front uvj's, wishbones, tyres, brakes, etc, (and ive just replaced the advance solenoid in the injector pump), but thats all ive done in 3 yrs and 57,000 happy miles
Bobbeh
I cant believe people are still asking the question. Things considered to be normal wear on tear on a Ford/Vauhxall just dont happen on a Toyota until its nearly clapped out or 10+ years old at least.
