Good news on cancer research

Not necessarily... 2 out of 17 is a-hell-of-a-place to be... The main thing is that they are getting there, and hopefully its a few modifications on the current "process" and they will be a few higher than 2 out of 17...

But it would be great to see in my lifetime...

They say you cant put a price on life, but our goverment does.

Could it not be argued that the "price" is limited by the amount of taxes that the public are willing to pay.

How much extra tax per month would you be willing to pay in return for the eradication of cancer? How about funding it through petrol tax?

Ah, don't view it from funding and politics and red tape points of view :) View it as a major step forward in the science of it all! 0 out of 17 means you haven't got a clue, 2 out of 17 shows they have got something right somewhere and can build on that.

I think the average drug discovery-to-market cycle is about 7 years? The R&D will probably take a lot longer in this case though, providing it's not an unfortunate coincidence or a dead end.

Excellent! Thankyou very much.

If science and technology can develop a cure for cancer, then there's no reason that the same R&D can't produce all sorts of other innovations which make the ongoing costs of a civilisation with increased population equally viable, clean performance cars running on waste fuel, etc.

You're right - regardless of the social and economic effect, it's a great illustration of the sort of things that CAN be achieved.

Yeah it's a great breakthrough. Read it in the Metor today that they modify the chromosomes to specifically target white cancerous cells and then spreads like a virus killing the cancer. Fair play - we need more of this in the world.

Although I'm still annoyed one particular disease isn't addressed and a cure isn't really being researched as it's not classed as a disease even if it causes so much pain and destroys ones self-confidence........but that's a different story.

Mate - I'm sure there's pump-devices you can get which might help, plus I've seen pills and creams advertised in some emails that I've received that claim they can help you..... ;)

Once I'm back on the internet again at home I'm going to look into that distributed cancer program thingy!

In other news, my 6 months scan came back clear today :nana:

thats great news Ian, very happy for you and the 6 month tests being clear :D

i am sure lots of forms of cancer will be cured in the not too distant future.

everything has to start from one small step, but once the start is made there is no going back.

hopefully, money will be put forward for these reserach projects. Also, for the actual treatment and drug costs for the patient.

atm, there is this argument going on about the drug for bowel cancer, and NICE not funding it, as it's not a cure, only prolongs life for a few months.

the people that make the decisions, would want it funded if their relative was involved. so why not everyone else. so sad when things are done on cost, and chance of recovery basis.

i know many are against stem cell research, but if it gives hope of recovery from spinal injuries and crippling diseases/illnesses i feel it is ok as well to implement this. maybe will be cure for arthritis one day soon as that affects so many.
