Gerry
Does anyone know of a good web-site out there that explains (in VERY SIMPLE simple terms) what the various mod bits do and how they work ? There must be an "idiots guide" out there somewhere for BOV's an stuff ? Got a J Spec TT if that helps, standard at the mo cept for some kool seats !! michael
It's probably best to start somewhere like HowStuffWorks.com to get a decent grasp on the basics before looking at mods. Then once you've got through this insert the word 'better' in front of words like power, cooling etc to get an idea what a modded version of something would so

Aerotop Dave
You know, I was thinking about something like this for the new-look technical section because I don't have a good grasp on what does what either. A sort of 'Supra upgrade path' diagram also. What do people think?
Gerry
Thanks Dave & Michael.... How stuff works is good, thanx. Think an upgrade path would be good, the only trouble is that all the "engine geeks" only like the way they do it and thinks that everyone else's way of doing it is crap. I can see it starting a war I'll do it bit by bit and by asking people on meets etc. Thanks.... PS Supraguy --- ho ho ho very helpful !
Soonto_HAS_soop
Would this not be very similar to what they already have on MKIV.com? It's a good idea, but what extra information would you want to put into it, and as already said, whos information do you use and whos do you ignore? Ben.. Although most of things that we discuss is about how to modify and how to fit, not as to "WHY" we should necessarily fit them. Ben..
Patrick_Devlin
Howstuffworks Thats a fantastic site for a mechanical ignoramous like myself... learnt so much over this lunchtime already. Might even begin to understand whats going on in this technical section one day!
Gerry
Supraguy - thank you, the trouble is, is that some on here know so much about motors (you) that they can't understand that some others (me) know so little Until I got the Supe, I had never heard of a Bov, let alone what it did - all this learning makes my brain ache ! Thanx for the links though, they are very helpful. Pat - I know where you are coming from !! Cheers Gerry

Thanx for the links though, they are very helpful. Pat - I know where you are coming from !! Cheers Gerry I think this can happen sometimes, people forget what it's like to be dumb like Gerry! (JOKE!) It is easy to be patronising and unhelpful, not that I'm saying anyone in this thread has been! As long as the problems/questions get sorted in the end thats all that matters. When you spend alot of money on your car and extra bits for it you do want to make sure you are getting the right things and doing the right jobs. If your not that aufey (what!) with the way these things work it can be intimidating.

A kind of flow chart thing would be good, you could look at the upgrade you are thinking of, de-cat for instance and see whats involved - pros, cons, power gains, other considerations like colder plugs, VFCC, MOT legality etc.. Obviously a lot varies on an individuals preferences, but if its kept general enough that shouldn't be a problem.
