Oil Cooler

Can anyone reccommend any particular oil cooler and advise whether or not it is actually necessary. Any of you guys ( or gals ) fitted one of these yourself.

The one available from Miami rice sounds like a very reasonable price when you look at the mega buck prices of blitz or hks ones. What major difference is there likely to. How is the oil pressure affected?

Look forward to hearing your comments:cool:

Mocal coolers are hard to beat. But I don't know if they would have an off the shelf sanwich plate that would fit the Supra...

The Greddy one is tried and tested...might be more expensive than a Mocal though.

I had a very frightening experience with a brand new Greddy oil cooler, see this thread:

If choosing an oil cooler I would go with CW's advise in the above thread

I now have an HKS oil cooler fitted which has threaded unions to connect the oil lines.

Thanks for the replies.

Bl@@dy hell Nic, that is a scary experience. Was everything sorted out ok in the end.

Heckler, you describe the miami one as Miami rice/Mocal, so is it a hybrid. I thought the Mocal ones were at least twice the price.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing how your install goes, will you be going for oil temp and pressure gauges as well. It definitely sounds like it will be worthwhile mod with summer just around the corner ( ie. 1 week of hot weather between the rain storms : )

Nic, quick question, why (if all your oil drained out) did youy oil warning light and general warning light not come on? Surely the oil fill light should of come on, and the general hazard light in the centre of the rev counter should of lit up?

Ben, the warning lights didn't come on, it was dark so I would have noticed immediately. The garage said as soon as the pipe blew off, the oil would have pumped out very rapidly and the pressure would be lost instantly. The oil slick on the road was only about 50m and I was travelling at about 60mph so basically everything happened too quickly to know anything about it or to react.

Are there any of the modded cars on here hitting high oil temperatures?

Last one

The main reason my bumper is off, cos i alos installed the FMIC at the same time, so seemed locical to do the oil cooler & filter relocation kit. - I know not all the hoses are conected up yet in the pics... but they are now!

I think if you were doing just the oil cooler, the bumper would need to come of - it would make it so much easier.

Well, it took me 9 hrs on my own to fit both oil cooler and FMIC.

Thanks for posting the pics heckler, looks like a fairly straight forward install.

I was hoping removing the bumper wouldn't be necessary, fitted my hks 's' type last summer along with a new rad and a/c condenser and not looking forward to removing the bumper again. Any chance of some pics from under the bonnet, in particular where the oil filter was originally.

Did you have to modify the oil cooler kit in any way or use any additional parts or was everything spot on.

Thanks again!!
