Red
Hey guys, Had the supra a few weeks now and there are a few noises that are worrying me and I dont know what they are! Any advice from you lot would be MUCH appreciated! 1) there is a noise that sounds like a high pitched 'E E E E E E' coming from the front end somewhere on idle. Sometimes it sounds as if it is coming from the belts at the front? When I have been sitting in traffic jams, I can also hear a similar (louder one) but I dont know if its the same? this one goes away when i depress the clutch pedal a slight amount. A new clutch has been put in recently, but it has at least a couple of thousand miles on it. 2) Is it normal for the power steering to make a quite audiable (VERRRRRRRRR) sound when im turning stationary or at low speeds?? sometimes when I'm getting near full lock, it makes a MUCH louder vibrating noise for about 1.5 seconds. this is worrying me!! 3) How do you stop all that bloody racket coming from the back/boot area???? Thanks in advance fellas, and I hope you liked my imitation noises! Cheers, Red.

Chase
1 & 2 sound a bit dodgy. As for 3, if it's a really annoying squeak, then it's your boot rubbers. Do a quick search - there's loads about it. It's dead easy to do though, takes about 20 mins.

I get this too if the car is on a lose surface like grass or gravel. Hasn't caused any problems for me. As a rule you should try not to turn the steering wheel when the car is stationary anyway, especially not to and from full lock!
SimonB
#2, check your power steering fluid level, sounds like low fluid or an air lock. If there's enough fluid in there, try taking the cap off and turning the wheel from lock to lock slowly for a bit, that should bleed off any air in there. FaithStalker
1) Sounds dodgy, you can sometimes get a "squeek" from the aux drive belt, just replace it , doesnt cost much, 2) sounds normal to me, i get it on loose surface, or on full lock when stationary 3) the famous boot rattle...... Supraguy
The PS pump is known to fail by holding the wheel at full lock. Just avoid doing this too much.
TLicense
Just had a thought, Although everyone straight away jumps at boot rubbers when talking about "the noise coming from the boot". Try taking the giant lump of polystyrene out. Mine rubs against anything and everything, and makes a right old racket. Hoppe that helps Tony
Red
Thanks for all your words of wisdom. I've checked the PS fluid and it is low, so I'm gonna get it Filled ASAP. DEX II sound right to you guys. Is the halfrauds stuff ok, or is it advisable to go to Toyota?? About the other ones... I know it sounds dodgy!! I guess its impossible for you guys to say what it is without actually being with the car. Just wanted some pointers, so thanks for that. I'm gonna see about taking out all that polystyrene from the boot area, sounds like a good idea. And will prob order some new boot rubbers too! Thanks again, Red
Terminator
My aux belt started making a racket the other week and it has only done a year or so. I carefully poured water on the side face of the belt at tickover to wash off winter crap and salt dust. It is fine now.
