Gough
Afternoon everyone I'm in desperate need of some quick advice. There is a 93 auto TT with 50k miles on the clock for 9 grand (in Japan). However, there is a problem: "The bonnet has been replaced; also front member has been replaced" Would this suggest that the car has been in a major accident, or just a low speed shunt? The car is actually listed as grade 4 and of interior grade B. I need to inform the importing company by 6pm today if I wish to make a bid, but I don't want to end up with a lemon! Any advice greatly appreciated, Joe
Soonto_HAS_soop
If it has been in a shunt and the front repaired, ten the auction grade is false and they are lying. The auctions have a certain grade level for cars that have been accident damaged, and it is NOT 4!! Ben..
Gough
Thanks for the prompt reply. Is it possible that the grade 4 rating for this car was cosmetic only?! I don't really know enough about their grading system anyway so perhaps the car is to be avoided. Just watching Newera's Sylines & Skyscrapers DVD and according to the interviews on that, the grading system isn't as reliable as one might think. Scooter
IMO the price isn't good enough to warrant the risk. You can get good cars here for around that figure, ones that you can actually try before you buy and will be all alarmed up etc I wouldn't be so concerned re some minor front repair but i'd want to 'see' the quality of this repair, which is the most important thing. All IMO.
Steve W2
I wouldn't bother either if your unsure. As others have said it shouldt be graded as 4 if it been damaged. That said mine was graded as a 4 with immaculate bodywork. They obviously missed the fact that the door was a completely different feckin colour. Credit where its due, they did notice the small scratch on the engine sump:p I'm taking the piss now! Hope it turns out well for ya!
Gough
Thanks Scooter & Steve, I think your right; but obviously I can't drive the car until I have bought it, although the company concerned do offer a full money back pledge should the car arrive in Southampton and not be to my satisfaction. One other thing, the pictures from this auction house are of quite low resolution/poor quality. I'm starting to wonder why.... hmmm. Thats settled then, It shouldn't be to long for a good one to come along hopefully.
Aerotop Dave
Yep, definitely an 'avoid' there, I think. It's a serious amount of money and the whole thing has to feel 'right', no matter how good it all seems. You've said yourself that it doesn't quite all fit together so time to walk away I think. Plenty more out there, both in Japan and the UK.
Gough
Agreed. I've never spent this amount of money in my life, so I'll stick to the non-accident examples. Thanks for all the quick responses. Didn't expect to get so many so quickly Joe
