Guest mmorg3053
Hi all. Just been having a quick look at your site. I am looking at buying a UK TT Supra with manual gearbox. Can anyone reccomend a good garage that sells them? Had a look on autotrader and the only place I can find is http://www.performancecarcompany.com Oh, am hopefully getting a Supra to replace my 1995 Toyota Celica GT4 ST205 with 332bhp and 318lb/ft torque. Hopefully it will be a step up, but I dont expect a standardish Supra to be as quick or handle as good. Hopefully the lovely Supra interior will make up for that though. Thanks all. Tom
Welcome, my first advice would to start really researching the supra and all the different specs etc(this will take some time but it's all on here in teh FAQ) as finding a uk manual that's in good condition is next to no chance, no garages would ever have stock of these, at least not more than one!,almost every new member that comes on here is looking for a "UK manual" and will 99% of the time end up buying an imported one as there are so many to choose from and they are typically in better condition and much much lower mileage, tbh I really cant see the fuss over the uk's now as the insurance between them is so competitive now, 3-4 years ago it was a different story but imo it would be a waste of time waiting around for a low mileage uk manual because it will probably never turn up!, if you have to get a uk though the auto is good and there are more to choose from but I'd really be pointing yourself in the direction of the j-specs. Is there any particular reason for the UK?, becuase if it's due to power figures you can put that to rest as the j's make over 300-320bhp in stock form. And nope in stock form it probably wont be as quick or handle as well as your gt4 but if you buy one that has some decent suspension and that has been set up well and some good tyres you'd be all over a gt4, obviously not in the wet though! Mild tuning, de-cat,plugs,fuel pump etc will see around 370-400bhp pretty comfortably and the power just doesnt give up, the supra wil just pull and pull from over 100. If you need any more info try a quick search first then ask if you can't find what your looking for and check out the for sale section here, this is the best place to find a decent car as it would have been enthusiast owned! Guest mmorg3053
Hi mate. The reason I want a UK spec one is firstly the insurance. Being 24 I struggle to get insured for an import for less than 800 and believe me I have tried. I can get insured for u UK car for £600. Also, I believe the brakes on the UK cars are better and arent the turbos slightly different?? I also like the bonnet on the UK compared to the Jap model. I just dont want to be spending money on a Jap one trying to bring it to UK spec. Im quite happy to wait until the right car comes along. Tom
My renewal was about £600 on my J-spec TT @ 22 with 5 years ncb, yes the brakes are better and they do have steel turbos which means you run slightly higher boost maybe .1 bar but most people these days are replacing the turbo's all together, if your happy to wait then that's fine but expect to be waiting for a long time, it could even be a year to find the right one. And on the insurance, if your quote is only around £300 difference it would be mad to wait, say a uk manual came up with decent mileage ie 60k you would expect to pay a good 13-14k I'd imagine, if anyone thinks more than this they are wrong as people wont spend 4-5k more for the equivalent j-spec for the sake of a few hundred on insurance! You know though that if you have a good budget of around 15k+ you should be searching for a post 97 RZ as this has the UK brakes and some nice goodies that the UK never had, vvti engine, recaro's,new colours, facelift lights, dash etc and would be a far better buy than any uk, it may even have the REAS worked suspension which from reading is far better than what the supra was origianlly given, also it'll be far newer, better condition and the list goes on! Guest mmorg3053
Been looking about and I may settle for a manual. I suppose it saves on getting really expensive clutches for the manual, lol. What sort of power can the autos take?
ChrisSZ
I think autos are supposed to be able to handle somewhere around 500bhp - although there are a few that are running considerably more mate:)
Guest mmorg3053
Good good. Looks like I may well go auto. I suppose it can change gear quicker than me (although the human brain thinks it can change quicker than auto, lol) and I will have the benefit of 2 hands on the steering wheel....
