MrRalphMan
Anyone need any labels that slide into the slot on a DLT/SDLT tape? I'm loading 200 or so ready labelled tapes and the ones they supply are going in the bin. I'll gladly send some off if anyone requires them, although most people prob have an abundance of these too.. Just trying to help..

Branners
I keep finding these all over the server room where the team get a new tape out in a hurry when one has just failed. We find our weekly tapes are getting about 12 months out of them before they wear out? anybody got wear rates like that? JB

I'm pretty sure a DLT has a life expectancy of 20 uses.
cashpoint
20 uses for DLT tape that can't be right. We have a set for each day Mon-thur then friday tapes are used once every 4 weeks. Never had a tape snap yet in 3 years of usage. In that time we've only had to replace one tape and that was because it got tangled in the drive, which turned out to be a drive fault so we got a new drive. The older DAT tapes would snap at least once a month but they were far older years old.
MrRalphMan
I think you're right and I'm talking out of my bum. What is the cleaning cycle? Are you sure the cleaning tapes haven't passed their useful number of cleans either. If the drives are not cleaned correctly, this will cause numerous errors. What errors are you getting for the tapes? Are they getting stuck in the drives or are you getting write errors?
GeordieSteve
Yeah I replace every 12 months. Piece of mind rather than failure

Drives are cleaned after 60 hours (automated message) of use so for us that's about once a week.
