Oil Temp Gauge

I thought that with the a/r gauge to start with but that was just the gauge. Simply unplugged it and hooked up another and all was good. I'll have to checl thee route of the sensor lead to see if anything has obstructed it but im sure it was one of the last things i looked at before filling with oil and (trying) turning over.

I have been messing around with the control box and wires after discovering an absolute mess left by the garage who installed them

Do you mean it goes straight to 60 or gradually goes up to that and then no hotter? Because the oil in the bottom of the sump won't get a lot hotter than that in normal use. Certainly much cooler than the oil around the filter area for example.

Well a little update. After doing an oil change (which meant removing the sensor from the pan) and fiddeling with the gauge control box i took the car for a drive. It first flickered around 40 then slowly as the car got warmer it got more steady and now seems fine. VERY odd if you ask me. I'll watch it again tomorrow but is it possible the sensor in the sump pan could have been in too tight??
