Probably re-posting myself, but...

One day my wife decided she had had enough of going to work. So she quit her job and enrolled at Bournemouth Uni for a Media course. I did'nt find until a couple of months later when I rang her works number to ask her a question...the lady on the phone said 'Janet ?, no, I'm afraid shes left' When I said that 2.30 was a bit early for her to leave, the lady laughed and said 'no, she left several weeks ago'.

Does that imply my wife was afraid of my reaction to her wish to give up work, or does it mean she is her own person and felt secure enough in our relationship to do whatever the hell she feels like. This is a deep meaningful question I pondered over for at least 30 seconds.

So, out of interest- what was the answer???

We had a massive argument about it. I came in from the direction of family finance, son about to go to Uni / holiday looming / balancing the outgoings against a regular known income and it all going tits up.....she hit back with how mundane her job was and how she felt she was getting toward older age with nowt meaninful under her belt. Her dream of becoming a movie director may also improve the family finances eventually too.

Put like that, I felt a right t**t for even bringing the subject up:d

TBF I think I'd have been a bit miffed more that I wasn't 'in the loop' more than anything.

Ah I have none of these politics yet. My relationship is only 6 weeks old and it's all fun and games. I get the impression she may take over at some point though.

Mind you as long as she doesn't get too comfortable and stop going to the gym I don't mind at all:run:

Messed up I'd say. Does she not have to work though? I mean maybe she's a credit card monster and it's the only way to stop her destroying them with debt :D

Assuming thats for me.....

Its spookier than that. She has a part-time job which her husband was dead against to start with aparently as he considers himself the breadwinner. She took up the job to supplement her allowance and to 'give herself something to do when the kids were at school and she'd done all the housework'.

Her allowance didnt cover things like meals out and treats for the kids (like PS2 games ffs) so the extra income covers that. If her car (a birthday present from hubby, so she can take the kids to school) needs work doing on it, he lends her the money and she pays him back when she can.

Yes, that came up somewhere between the 'can we talk' bit and the 'crashing of dinner plates' finale. That was expertly deflected with the classic 'I cant talk to you because you are always on that bloody forum' retort.
