Gamer
I lived in Amsterdam for 5 years. I only went on a one month vacation but liked it so much I stayed...
dangerous brain
I can ask at work for you fella. Living and working in Holland has some advantages Rotterdams supposedly OK but from what I gather most of the people I work with prefer Utrecht which isnt far from the dam either. Getting a train from the airport is a doddle just go down one flight of stairs from the main airport building and theres ya train
GeordieSteve
We're going over by ferry so plenty of vomiting before we even get there I suppose!
dangerous brain
The one straight into amsterdam from Newcastle?? Thats a big assed ferry boat and if its anything like the one I came over on Sunday from Hull it'll be a hoot and a half as its got proper bars and entertainment the lot. Mini cruise to get you started.
BASHTHEBISHOP
Been a few times and love the place. It doesnt reflect the rest of the country though but i am sure i will go again. Have visited other areas of Holland too and love the country. Friendly people, great culture and very scenic. They know how to build and how to run public transport. rik
I went for a few days, me and the missis and another couple. Didn't seek any advice first, just went. Didn't have any problems or run ins! Must of heard the word Cocainum....cocainum" being whispered over my shoulder a million times, but like said just ignore it and keep walking. If you go in the hash museum, try the gnarly hippies 'Atomiser' bowl thingy. It's good! me and my mate recon most of the birds in the RLD look just like Whoopi Goldburg (not nice) but there are some awesome looking ones too. Just keep walking though. I stopped to do a bit of window gazing and only just escaped! Enjoy!

Great trip away especially for a boys weekend... I need my bed

Gamer
I see you failed to mention the ladies of the night... It is very fun there but after the first 3 years it gets a bit much, by the 5th year I had enough to fill a few books.
GeordieSteve
What ladies... I don't know what your all talking about! pmsl No we spent most of our time in bars and coffee shops... although we did spend an obscene amount of time taking the piss out of the fat ones! Pete
I'm going tomorrow. Got to be up at 04:00 Route planned - Hotel is near Heinekin and Van Gogh museums so do those tomorrow. Anne Frank not too far either. Probably just a restaurant and early to bed. Day after, no idea in the day, checkout the RLD in the evening. probrox
I was sitting around bored last night and not looking forward to my birthday at the weekend, with nothing to do, so I went online and ended up booking ferry tickets for Amsterdam for me and a mate. I leave tonight and come back monday. Having never been before I wondered if anyone on here can give me advice on where to stay, places to visit etc. Also, do the new smoke free laws over there mean no more smoking cafes or is it just tobacco smoke that the law applies to? Multics
Go somewhere near the central station, excellent transport links there. The law now says you can't smoke tobacco in coffee shops or joints containing tobacco. But you can still smoke pure weed haha. Got to love the Dutchies
Trig
make sure you go to the red light district and go window shopping!!!

Benyon
if you go to damrak which is the main street just outside of the the station there are loads of Places to stay at good prices, Beware of stairs if you have big feet thou. I have been a few times now i love it. I must go this year. I heard they are slowly shutting the red light district down. When your walking down the street you will get black guys whispering in your ear trying to sell you coke but just shake you head and keep walking. GeordieSteve
Stay in Dam square or central station... stayed in the Queens (I think) hotel in central once which was very nice and very close to all the "action". Smoking dope in the cafes is fine as long as you don't roll with tobacco. I advise the coffee shop down from the old sailor on the other side of the canal by the rock bar
probrox
Any of the live sex shows any good? Heard they have all sorts of tricks that they can do with pens and bananas. And how much is weed in the cafes? Do you buy per joint or roll your own?
