Ban smoking all together, was up in Scotland at the weekend and went to a wedding, it was bliss not breathing in smoke from people cigarettes going home not smelling like a stale ashtray and thats when your a non smoker.

As for getting a fine for dumping you cancer stick or flicking your ash damn right, there should be a lot more of these people out there handing out fines to people with no respect to our country.

Ban cars all together, was up in Scotland at the weekend and went to a wedding, it was bliss not breathing in exhaust fumes from peoples cars going home not smelling like a petrol station and thats when your a non car driver.

As for getting a fine for dumping you polluting emissions or flicking your flamer kit right, there should be a lot more of these people out there handing out fines to people with no respect to our country.

This annoys me, cars have ashtrays but the stinky death stick lovers don't want to fill their cars with the nasty crap, just flick it out into the world so we can all share it.... along with the pollution coming out of my exhaust and all the rubber I'm making you breathe ;)

Good on them. What's with smokers? Why don't they see that ash and butts ARE litter? It all boils down to laziness - "hey why fill up my cars ashtray which I then have to empty, when I can just chuck it all out of the window and make it someone elses problem".

And what's with the comment "I don't remember doing it..." WTF???? Does he ever THINK about doing it? Does he sometimes think "hmm, now to flick my ash out of the window". For most smokers that is as natural as breathing I should think.

The story's not talking about a fag butt, it's just ash FFS! A £75 fine? Completely over the top IMO. Sitting in traffic smoking a ciggy isn't going to give anyone else cancer, it's certainly not going to have anywhere near the effect of breathing in the exhaust fumes!

There seem to be quite a few people who have used this thread to proclaim that all smokers are the anti-christ who should be burned alive and have no respect for anyone else. It must be wonderful to be able to play the holier-than-thou card.

Regardless of what I think about smoking it is legal, and the fine is completely over the top and a complete waste of time. :)

I posted a while back that I'd been summonsed (word ?) for throwing a cigarette end from a car. In my case, I received a caution in return for an abject apology and an admission of guilt. I didnt get fined. Looks like Poole council are toughing up.

Do I think littering is excusable ? Absolutely not.

Do I think a £75 fine is fair for a bit of ash out your car window ? Absolutely not.

Do I think theres an unnofficial competition amongst council employees for the most catches during their drives to and from work ? Possibly.

What's with smokers?

Sorry mate but I have to argue this. I'm an occasional smoker and I certainly have respect for other people. I don't drop the butts on the floor and I don't smoke in crowded areas or in any circumstances where it would affect anyone else. There are a lot of people with the same attitude, don't label all smokers as the same.

A person is a person is a person, smoking doesn't make you a bad one (a dead one perhaps but that's another story).

Okay - firstly I am a smoker ... and whilst I'm not breaking any laws I object to statements such as

"there should be a lot more of these people out there handing out fines to people with no respect to our country."

Its only ash he has flicked out of the car, not a butt! The impact on the environment is, well, negligible to say the least.

I try and refrain from smoking in the car as much as I can - although I have been guilty of similar acts in the past.

But this is another indication of the police/nanny state OUR respectful country is morphing into.

A person walking through a busy town centre sneezing is much more likely to be a short-term health hazard than a few particles of ash being whipped up into the sky by the wind. Wonder when there will be on the spot fines for people guilty of sneezing/coughing in public?? :innocent:

So a garden bonfire should cost something in the region of millions, a barbeque in the hundreds of thousands and if you have an open fire at home best you get into rap or drug dealing/gun running or something :) :)

Completely disproportionate in my opinion, and as for the "health" Hitlers..................................

My comment was "in general" yes it maybe over the top for just ash, but take the fact that this could be where it all started and its one more person that will think twice on doing it again as next time it could be a piece of paper or an empty can, sure people can say its a bit heavy handed and extreme but lets go into your very own street and I am sure that there are people who stay in nice area's and love the place to look tidy and then people all started littering it could have all started from "ash"

PS this is only an example and not to be taken to seriously

I gave up smoking after 23 years of Marlboro full fats.

Occasionally.....just occasionally....I still fancy one....and then dismiss it and get on with trying to keep the weight I put on after stopping down to a reasonable level.

I have a great deal of sympathy for those addicted to cigarettes.

It is appallingly difficult for the average smoker to give up.

There is always the person who "just stopped...no problem" but for the ordinary addicted mortal the very act of trying to give up can take years before it seems like a good idea.

it can be a good idea for just a few days and a major attempt may and often does end in failure. It can takes months or even years before the window of opportunity to give up comes up again. It is an addiction.

I have no patience with those who have no patience with smokers. For my part I apologised to most of the people I subjected to my "clouds" after I was certain I had given up. (its always touch and go!!!!)

It IS easier to give up when those surrounding you do not smoke.

It IS easier to give up now it is ,generally, socially unacceptable.

Easier , however is relative. It is still hard to stop smoking.

The ash from a cigarette is not going to make one whit of difference to the enviroment. If this driver has been fined for ash then as another poster said another damming example of the nanny state.

If it is a cigarette butt then I must concur with the state. As I understand it they are not easily bio-degradable and should be got rid of responsibly. ( How long do they last in the garden!!)

As for you smokers ....don't you just hate the smug bastards whose body has its genes arranged in such a way that it has never felt the need to smoke or has tried and rejected the sensation.......and even worse are the even smuuger bastards who have managed to overcome their addiction.

Oh to be perfect!!!

:yeahthat:

I smoke, so does the missus. We dont smoke indoors, around the kids, in the car, restaurants or pubs where food is served. If we do go out anywhere we smoke outside.

I would say most ex smokers are the worst when it comes to complaining.

What about sweet wrappers being thrown from a car, parking tickets, burger wrappers ,etc.

Are all the complainers about a bit of ash not guilty of that either? Or just perfect in everyway.

I dont condone littering, but lets be realistic.

James, sorry mate but that is a rediculous argument. That's like saying all maryanna smokers are raving drug addicts, which, as you know, they are not.....

I say we should start fining overweight people. Lets be fair, they take up more than their fair share of the available room on pavements, in pubs and restuarants, etc...fine the bstds!....

Then they have the nerve to prance around our streets on a jogging mission. There is no park or place you can go now without these smelly, sweaty, spitting, nose blowing pratts, prancing past you, wafting their sweating smell in your face, spitting on the grass where you want to sit (wonder why TB has made a re-appearance recently?... And of course then there is hepatitis)...

Fine people for being fat and jogging I say. Smokers are innocent by comparison....:flame: :flame:

I would understand it for a butt as I really cant stand that there is nothing more annoying that a hot cigeret butt bouncing off my paint work! you have an ash tray so USE IT! However surly that is a bit off to do someone for just ash. However I feel smoking is more dangerouse than using a phone, at least if you drop a phone it dosnt set fire to things.

Don't agree with you Daston.

Smokers rarley drop their cigs, but mobile phone users 1) Are not concentrating properly on their driving, due to the distraction of conversation in hand, 2) you often see them trying to negotiate roundabouts, road junctions etc, with one hand, when they need both hands for signalling, changing gear etc.

Mobile phones are FAR more dangerous than smoking while driving..
