FaithStalker
As the thread title suggests - anyone had one, knows someone with one? test drove one...? Have they got rid of those horrid reliability issues and little things that destroy the driving pleasure (i.e rattles and bits falling off) http://www.parkers.co.uk has some good owners reviews... prices are falling now too, 10K will buy a 2002 car with all leather , air con etc etc. i vowed never to buy an Alfa again after my 6 month stint with a 155 - i sold it with a loss of 4K after it had a problem every day of its sad life.... carl0s
Front wheel drive. Enough said I had a GTV that I really liked, but I was weary about it falling apart. As it happens, it was ok. It had to have a new gearbox in its second year (from new) though Apart from that I don't think Alfa's are so bad nowadays. They don't rust like 'suds any more. The most common problems from what I read were: Variator / Cam Phaser. Makes the twinsparks sound like diesels. Not sure if this applies to the V6 motor. Cambelts breaking prematurely and ruining engines, particularly the V6's. Apparently part of the cause here was Alfa UK being unwilling to implement realistic cambelt replacement intervals (i.e. in line with European Alfa dealers), for fear of affecting resale values for lease cars. Love the dashboards and seats. 147 GTA is stunning inside.
Dave F
A friend of mine has one of these bloody lovely inside with the leather trim and bose sound system, but I still dont like the shape of it too much. Not sure if he was giving it all its got but it did'nt feel that quick either and thats coming from an n/a owner.
FaithStalker
hmm i'm pretty sure i saw some stats about its 0-60 in about 6.4 secs seconds - cant remember Supra NA stats , but stock TT is 5.7 AUTO and 4.7 manual. Yeah i am not comparing it to the Supra point for point, I just really like the look of it, no doubt about it - it has style and sexy elegance (imho), and have always been interested in Alfa's - you can find some great bargains and some great lemons
silvershark44
huhummmmmmmm...auto is 5.6:tongue:
montezumola
I've always been a fan of Alfas - had a 145 Cloverleaf for a number of years, was great fun on track! .. But I had numerous problems with it, in 3 years of ownership it needed a new clutch, gearbox and many RAC breakdown calls! When it drove tho', it drove well! The Twin-spark note was sweet ... How's about an Alfa SZ ??
FaithStalker
ouch! what are the stats on those things? they made a 156 GTA too, but thats not too hot.... the new GT is nice, but too expensive, give that 3 - 4 years and you'll be getting great bargains on that. strange cos over here in NZ Alfa's are mega money - even second hand!!!!!!!!!!! carl0s
They did an RZ and an SZ IIRC. I can't remember so well but I suspect the RZ was convertible. Slightly funny looking though. They're well regarded among Alfisti but I suspect that's just for the rarety value. They were all LHD apart from I think one or maybe two 'semi-official' RHD conversions. The TZ would be my dream Alfa, or TZ2 anyway.
carl0s
huhummmmmmmm...auto is 5.6:tongue: because the auto is slow off the line. 30 - 70 in a BPU car has got to be like twice the speed of any V6 Alfa.
jackso11
I know this is only my opinion so don't take it to heart, but I think Alfas are pants, they all look shocking I think. esp that one in the picture above!!

jackso11
yeah, to see if people will pay the stupidly high prices they will need to charge to make a cncept car. People won't, and then they will stop making it. Concept cars are what people would like to make if things were cheaper. It can't be made for a normal price. mattanna
147 gta is only 250bhp and in what tests i have seen it cannot put it's power down in all but the driest and best tytre grippiest of conditions, it also needs thraping, alfa reliability is generally shocking but engines are better now, electronics are bad though.Auto delta made one with powerupgrade but they are rare(oh and depriciation is almost the worst of any manufacturer).Result from last years top gear survey 111 Alfa Romeo 147 (DOWN) Engine/Gearbox ReliabilityElectrical ReliabilityBrakes/Suspension/SteeringFit/FinishSqueaks/RattlesPerformanceHandlingComfort/PracticalityCustomer CareOwnership Costs 111 out of
