Guest jorge
i've got a mk4 non turbo and now i want to buy an induction kit but,is it going to affect my fuel consumption?i'm looking for performance and sound, which one would you recomend? thanks
Digsy
I guess the simplest reply is that if you want more performance through an indiction kit, then you're already thinking about sucking in more air. If you have more air then you'll need more fuel to go with it, so yes it will affect your consumption. Probably not by much though. Isn't the current school of thought that induction kits don't give you much over stock?
outatime
The Apexi induction kit is supposedly the best of the aftermarket kits for filtration, the Blitz SUS is the loudest. There are also 'performance' panel filters available that drop into the stock airbox. Have a look in the traders section on this site Be aware that any aftermarket filter will allow a lot more crap into your engine than the stock element, also, they draw in warm air from the engine bay - so performance may suffer on hotter days. Do a search for 'induction kits', the subject comes up a frequently.
Ricepilot
Have an Apexi induction kit on mine. I've heard louder but its ok. Coupled it with a custom pipe and it ran 243bhp at the fly last Saturday.
Wez
243bhp, I am guessing you have an NA?

Ricepilot
Sorry I could have sworn that I wrote NA on the post but perhaps I'm confusing it with the post about induction kits... Mods were induction kit and exhaust. The wheel figures were something like 157bhp so there was something not quite right on the rollers. Am trying to work out the actual wheel figures for the percentage loss. I might just give up tho'
Syed Shah
157rwhp = 243bhp??? Sounds like they got the calcs a bit wrong for that, but even then, 157rwhp is good. Typical losses are thought to be appox 18-25% on autos.
Ricepilot
Its a manual...
Syed Shah
12-15% then
Digsy
My stock NA auto was dynoed at 163hp at the wheels, so that's about a 26% loss assuming the 220bhp at the flywheel that the book says it should have.
