fredm
I'm just wondering where abouts the needle sits on the gauge when the engine is at normal operating temp. http://sitebuilder.blueyonder.co.uk/sb/fredm/1155926097.jpeg The needle in my car never gets any higher than this, my first thought was that the car wasn't reaching operating temperature due to a faultly Thermostat (stuck open) but I have just replaced the Thermostat and it has made no difference. I let the car idle for 20 minutes this afternoon and it never moved a millimetre. Do they all sit here or is my gauge a bit duff? The cars a 96 U.K. T.T. auto. ChrisSZ
Mine used to sit in exactly the same place mate - it's slightly higher now as I removed and replaced the needle when I replaced my dial faces - nothing to worry about :)

Kranz
Mine's in the middle too. Could be the sender unit going a bit flakey. There's a resistance check you can do to check its not the sender. It should give a desistance of 2 to 3K ohms at 20 deg C and 0.15 to 0.3K ohms at normal running temp. I guess yours is reading 0.4 to 0.7K ohms at hot if its faulty. Matt Harwood
The temp gauge on a Supra is notoriously unreliable. They only start going up when there's something seriously wrong! I would guess that either, as you say, the thermostat has been removed so it never quite gets up to 'normal' temperature, or a lazy gauge, or maybe the needle has been removed and re-fitted incorrectly in the past.
