Thanks! See this is the thing, id prob be ok for a week or so, but for 6 weeks, I think id start getting paranoid, ive got to drive to places on my own too, with expensive gear onboard. read all sorts of nasty things on news sites about things that happen they seem to shoot you and then mug you after, or gang rape anything from babies to elephants...id rather stay at home and watch the Jeremy Kyle show, trouble is its a great opportunity professionally, I just wish it was Spain or France (im so uncultured I know lol) Any reccomendations on hotels btw! grahamc
I used to live in CPT... Is an awesome place to visit!! If you are driving, you will love it! Take the Supra!! Speed limit is 120KMPH, but most of the time I used to travel at around 160 - 180 on the motorways. Outside of the towns, I used to be able to get my impreza to its top speed limit, 255? or so. Had a decent convoy of 7 imprezas all doing that speed for about 100kms. Fastest I ever went through a tank of fuel... and fuel is cheap compared to here. Standard things though, lock your doors, dont leave things on show in the car, stay out of dodgy areas... EDIT - Dont forget your GLOCK19, ever!!! Jokes! Lived up until January 2005, I came here because I was struggling on the work front, and my fiancee was worried that if she lost her job, she wouldnt find one. Also we wanted to be able to travel, in Europe and etc. Most people think that things are cheap in SA, especially things like good out to eat, drinking, etc. Hell of a lot cheaper than here... Cape Town in November for 6 weeks = all your time on Camps Bay beach front, watching all the gorgous mostly naked, perfectly tanned women walking around...MMM, miss the place already!! Oh and Table Mountain, its awesome!!!!
2JG
Have to agree with grahamc, beautiful part of the country, just need to be careful where you go.(as with all parts of the world!) Lived in Joburg up until 14 years ago and would quite often take trips down to the Cape for breaks.

AntD
Have to agree with graham c there.I was born in Cape Town and lived there all my life.Been here in the UK about 10 years now.Things have changed since, but I would think for the better. The crime is always an issue.Never leave anything valuable on show.Stay clear from dodgy areas.I wouldn't stop at any red traffic lights late at night if the roads are clear.I was shot at just before I moved over here. They tried to hijack me,but its not something that happens that commonly in Cape Town as far as I'm aware. You would have a blast and only need a few pounds, well hundred to live like a king for 6 weeks:D
grahamc
As much as I have seen crime, I have never really been affected by it. Couple people have had houses broken into, had a couple of people try to pick pocket me (all of which got caught)... The worst I had was a situation made worse by a neighbour with a gun, when some people tried to steal alloys off a car, neighbour saw them, got his gun, fired a warning shot, we went out, then proceeded to have a heart attack while holding the gun. Nice... Seriously, I dont think its as bad as everyone makes out... Its all negative exposure, its the only thing that is shown in newspapers and on TV, as it pays more... As stated, dont do silly things, like go into dodgy areas, dont leave things on show, dont carry your wallet in your back pocket, dont advertise that you have cash on you, and you should be fine. Agree, late at night, traffic lights are treated as giveways, just make sure that there is nothing coming.... You will love it!!! ENJOY!!!
