D8MOA
as some you you might no i brought a cheap TT auto last week, when looking at the car i checked for smocking etc i was happy with no smock,(the car had been driven before i turned up) i removed the exhaust the other day as needs to be repaired and parked the car in my car park with only 1 cat on it, went and started it up today(havnt started since friday) and quite a bit of smoke! so conclusion is the valve stem oil seals right?? on another note at the moment all the coil packs are out due to missfiring and ive also removed the camshaft covers to decoke and replase the seals, i didnt really want to spend loads of time or ££ on this project before i sorted out the running faults,SHOULD i replase the stem seals while ime hear or put it all back together sout out the running then do the stem seals sorry if this is a bit of a silly post but dont no what to do really?!? Nic
What colour was the smoke white, blue, black? If it hasn't run for a while and the smoke was white it could just be condensation in the exhaust from being stood. If you're needing new coil packs or any other oem parts give me a shout. D8MOA
blue/white i run it with only the 1st cat in place! see i dont no weather to get the new exhaust fitted with the decats in place, refit all the top end then see the smoke situation? Mcgoo
If i read this right, you started it with one cat on and the rest of the exhaust removed right? If so couldn't the lack in back pressure be showing up worn turbo seals?

Mcgoo
I'm no expert but when you test drove it the exhaust was on, giving your turbos more back pressure. With the majority of the exhaust removed the back pressure would drop quite alot and allow the possibly worn seals to relax a little, making a bit of smoke. Alot of people on here suffer from this after a decat, me included. You could put your exhaust back on and see what happens. There is quite a few threads on smokey tubbies and valve stem oil seals have a look and compare your simptoms.
