Daston
Hi guys Would normaly be asking the ClubNA-T guys this but their site seems to be gone. Whats the max boost that the NA engine can hold on a stage 1 kit? Am I right in thinking its 8psi (being safe). Reason why I ask is cause I have a 5.8psi spring in my waste gate and was wondering if its worth putting a boost controler in to raise the boost to 8psi (or what ever the max safe figure is). Cheers
bromy
I would not run more than 7psi, stick with the 5.8 spring and run that boost dont forget your fueling is so important buy a aem wideband to keep a check on things, trust me it is worth doing the head gasket at this stage as you will only want to up the boost very shortly after your install
Daston
I am going to run the Apexi S-AFC Neo is this any good Bromy?
bromy
Not familiar with it, but make sure before you buy that someone has experience in setting one up as you may as well just go for a second hand safc, good luck with it and keep us informed, btw I would do a test fit of that manifold and turbo just to make sure about clearance
Daston
The neo is the same as the S-AFC II but with some bell and whistles like full colour display and a few extra monitoring tools. When I take the Manifold off do I need to take out the down pipe as well or can I get away with not having to jack the car up? It's just I tried that approach and couldn't get the car high enough to crawl under.
Lucifer
Yes As bromy said 7psi is the most you want to go to Dast.
Daston
Well thats one less thing to get, would better spark plugs be a good idea? Will try and take the manifold off this weekend that shouldnt be a problem its the putting it all back that could be fun!
Lucifer
Yes you will need to upgrade your plugs to 2 grades colder. Manifold is an easy job.

Daston
Right removed intake piping and heatshield (snaped one bolt taking it out oops) Now the main nuts on the mani are looking like crap whats the best way to loosen them up before removing them? bromy
WD40 or the likes of, have a set of mole grips handy too incase you snap the studs
Lucifer
Bromy, WD40 wont touch those studs for ages. Heat and Freeze spray, but Ive never had an issue with any NA studs in the manifold.

dandan
If you want to push your NA-T performance nearer the limit (maintaining some margin of safety) then you really need something that will allow you to setup up the fuelling spot on and adjust your ignition timing. An EManage Ultimate (or even a Blue if you're not going stupid with injector size) would be perfect. I would also be ducting the front mount intercooler, heat shield on your intake, fitting a water injection system, consider a thermostat controlled oil cooler (to help remove heat from the combustion chamber and underside of the pistons as effectively as possible), make sure the coolant system is perfect. Daston
Yeah at I will be doing that at a later stage at the moment I am just looking at running stage 1 and seeing how I get on. Does Emanage do the same as an Apexi SAFC?
dandan
Yes but much better. More resolution on the fuelling adjustment plus ignition timing control.
bromy
I have e-manage blue and we are not sure if the timing control feature will work with the distributor
