Sharpie
Hi, I am trying to get my car back for TSC but, it's looking slim but, if everything pans out then, I will only have a couple of days on new rubber before the TSC event. I'd like to have them fully scrubbed in by then but, how many miles does it take ? I might take some time off work to get them scrubbed in Ta
Fire148
About 100 yards, full throttle, spinning the little mites till they're slicks ! Or, about 2-3 miles of spirited driving is all thats required.... any more and you're not trying hard enough
Marco
Yep thats right, it just took me a spirited drive back to home. Approx 5 miles and the new rubber was rough.. it was a pleasant ride
Justin
Actually while the subject of 'tyres for Top Speed Challenge' comes up. Do people think it is safe for me to run with a puncture repair? I've been putting off buying new rubber as I don't think tread is what is required for drag events. But I have had a plug repair and wondered if it would hold out at 160+mph? I could find out the 'Kirsty's home videos uncut car crash death' way and just leave it to fate Would make for good videoing. Things for you video nasty type folk to look out for when I'm running on the day: 1. Turbos go 2. Engine goes 3. Rear left tyre explodes at 160 sending me into the ambulance at the speed trap area. Have to say this would look good on TV. There are worse ways to go Mine is the Silver GZ with TRD wing (Number 08)
Syed Shah
New tire. No two ways about it when playing around at those speeds.
Terminator
New rubber Justin. I would guess no manufacturer would recommend a repaired tyre be use above road legal speeds.

Best results are obtained from competion tyres by driving on tarmac or concrete surface to warm the compound and casing to operating temperature, without hard acceleration, braking or cornering, then allowing them to cool off. This will improves their life and enhance performance. I can't see that this does not apply to road tyres to. So a relatively gentel running in of the tyre will give you the bset long term results. It might be over kill but I usually allow miles 50 easy driving getting up to full maxium perfrmance by 100 on new rubber. As your tyres are the most important link between all your power and the road it is worth getting the best from them by preparing them well

I've been told by various tyre fitters that when repaired, they're as good as new.
Syed Shah
Worth the risk on the advice of some tire-boy? I think not.

Syed Shah
No, so little time with the Supra these days, it is only taken out a couple of times a month for some 160mph blasts Is your ban over? Bet you'll be looking forward to those sorts of speeds in the Supra again (legally this time ).
