I'll pay cash. thanks, Carl I am so sorry, we do not accept cash or postal orders as we do not have a licence to sell to the public, for that reason we ask cutomers to pay by bank transfer and collect the item from our warehouse in London or have it sent out the nextday special delivery. Many Thanks You don't need a license to sell an item to me. If you can sell to me via the Internet, then you can also give the item to me in person. Seems scammy to me, but seemingly a UK scammer. His feedback is 100%, but private so I can't view it. He's only been registered on eBay for two months. The hidden feedback could be because he doesn't want people to be able to see what he's sold (stolen goods?), but a completed items search against his ID shows lots of sucessful sales in the last few days. Price has gone up by £50 though. hmmm.

carl0s
hmm. he now says: Hi Carl We import/export goods and only have a license to sell to traders and not to the public (dont want to lose it over one transaction, too much to lose) unless you are willing to buy atleast 100 of these units and pay by cash on collection. Thanks Part of me thinks it might be legit. I mean, his bank sort code and account number are on the bottom of the auction: We only accept payment through bank transfer, please could you go into yorkshire bank and pay the amount into the following account: sort code: 050409. account number: 18018637, Name: Mr S Riaz. as soon as you have transfered the money into our account, we will dispatch your item. Thanks

carl0s
'Pre-approved bidders only' = Avoid Private feedback = Avoid Both = Bargepole I'm going to have to go with our combined instincts on this one and leave it. Ho hum.

Hmm. See, he says you can go have a look on that auction. Dilemma. Something legit-sounding about this one.
carl0s
Ah, but he wants the deposit before 'completing the rest of the auction (i.e. viewing)' Does anybody want to make the first move and ask if they can come look at the car, before bidding?
Pabs
well, all bar the fact he won't take deposit in cash, only by bank transfer... and he won't take full amount, has to be 10% straight away.. then full amount on collection? WTF?

Homer
Guys, do you think anyone who has a £35k Ferrari for sale would put an advert up like that. Its a scam, they've got a dodgy bank account and are trying to collect as much cash as possible in as short a time before they withdraw the money and disapear. carl0s
It's your money, but I wouldn't do it. If it seems to good to be true...then it probably is. yeah.. i know The £250 isn't that unbelievable. I hear there was a lorry load of the older TomTom 700's stolen some time ago.. It's definately questionable when he's had them listed at both £200 and £250 though.
Pabs
that all said - i risked it once. A guy with rating of 1, brand new to ebay, listed over 150 tomtom's - ones, go, 510 etc etc. Seemed really dodgy, but something slightly legit about it. My dad got one - it turned up! I ordered one - that did too! Now got a rating of over 200 i think. Some factor outlet place selling them all off cheap. But anyway, I certainly wouldnt risk it with that auction - not unless you can get some kind of insurance. Might be worth asking if paypal is possible... can't see why not. Bank deposit only. How about, you get one sent up from London, and I'll come buy it off you next time I'm in Dewsbury. I regularly work at a car dealer / leasing company in Beeston. toyotasuprauk
Scam! Not all scams are as straight forward as the typical Nigerian ones they are getting clever and ebay makes it very easy to commit fraud.
Pabs
no paypal - walk away. its a bank transfer (ok slight cost to him) but with insurance. No reason to refuse it.
carl0s
OK well I just messaged four of his buyers from 10th August (last thursday). If it's next day delivery (as it should be for £25), then they should have received them today. Hello. Sorry to bother you. I'm wondering if you have received your TomTom 510 from riazs_electrical_shop ? I am tempted to buy one, but it seems like it might be a scam. thanks, Carl lets see what they say.. carl0s
Had a reply from one chap Hi Carl, No I haven't why do you think it is a scam, he gave me a contact number? Regards I've now had a reply back from the seller regarding my insistence on picking it up: I am sorry Carl, we are not going to change our policy and they way we work for anyone. So if you are really intersted in buying the pioneer unit then please pay by bank transfer and have the unit delivered nextday by special delivery or come to London and pick it up yourself. Thanks hmmm. Pioneer unit? It's the TomTom GO 510 that I'm interested in. I'll leave it for now, but thanks anyway. I guess I'll have to spend some more money. I'm skint
carl0s
fancy that.. Hi Carl, I know what you mean I actually paid him by paypal, so at least there is some kind of protection I hope, otherwise I will report it as a fraudlent transaction but there is a few scammers around and I cannot see why you cannot collect since £25 is a little extornet. I do remember you could read his feedback but he has now decided to disclose this.Have you brought a unit from him as well? Regards
carl0s
OK I know I'm talking to myself here now, but just to double-confirm things, I wanted to look him up on PayPal. Well, I'm not sure how to do that, but I know that if you try to send a payment to someone, you can see a bit about them before you actually confirm the payment. Well, this is what I got: http://www2.css-networks.com/dodgy.jpg This means it is a valid account, but it's suspended or something. If I change the address by putting an additional character in there, I just get the "This recipient doesn't exist, but you can still send the money and it will be waiting for them when they register".
