Who to fit a Turbo kit to an N/A

I have seen a lot of blurb about turbo-ing a soop N/A and the merits of doing so against selling and buying a TT instead. I have decided I want to keep my car and want to extract circa 330 horses from it. I would prefer to supercharge it but am getting no-where fast sourcing a supercharging kit for the soop.

So that leaves me fitting a turbo kit instead. There are various kits for sale in the States and bearing in mind the strong pound against the dollar now is a very good time to buy. My problem is that I really wouldn't want to touch the install job myself. I am pretty sure that the job needs rolling road setups etc so I need a reputable installer to do the job.

About time too the question is does anyone know a reputable installer of N/A turbo kits in the Bournemouth Poole Southampton area?

I don't know anything about it to be honest but would another option be to take an engine and turbo's directly from a crashed TT and put it directly in yours, or doesn't it work that way?

I know every one is going to tell you to sell your car and buy a TT but that would cost you about another £6000, surely no convention could cost that sort of money could it?

If you do bother, then good luck with it.

You could try asking Turbo Dynamics in Christchurch if they know of anyone. They don't fit stuff themselves, but they do hybrids etc, so may know of someone. There's always Triton by the airport who are very good for mechanical stuff, but I doubt they've done anything quite like that before. I think there's a place by Thruxton race circuit that has a rolling road and does mapping etc, but I don't know anything about them really.

From what i could gather it would have to be the engine gearbox and most of the drive train to do a direct TT swap and that would just be way too much cash. The turbo kits are going at around $4k which is circa £2k at the mo and fitting shouldn't come to more than a grand so all in £3k hopefully which is less than a TT aero swap! and less than a TT engine gearbox and drivetrain swap.

As i have decided i like my car...i will prob go this route...i have talked with mechanic about this. HE is dad's mate and does all work on my cars, cheap and reliable and a perfectionist...which can be annoying!! i mentioned bout doing mine and he said no problem one summer..(as it wont be this year) he will take a week off and we both do it...he said although it a big job it is not as difficult as it could be as kit will have all replacement parts.. He did say i would have to go somewhere to get it mapped though... So question i ask is can you drive a car that has just had a turbo put on without it being mapped??

(for me this is 2 yrs away due to insurance but i have 3k for this already, he wont want paying more then 200, but ill give him 300 for his good work and a drink he enjoys doing the power stuff makes it bit differnet to sorting your average car!)

There are kits available in the states that are N/A specific , they are getting very good results with them and power to rival Big single TT's !!!!!! , a supercharger is not going to give you this sort of hike but will give more bottom end torque , get on the yank forums and have a look in the NA sections im sure you will learn all you need to know .

Ive been looking for a long time to go turbo in my NA.

Im going to get the Boostlogic one as it comes with everything you need including a front mounted intercooler.

TT engine swap costs loads (powerhouse racing charge about £12k!!).

The boost logic one is $4500 plus then theres the shipping to the uk + the fitting (which given that it will be the first time someone will be fitting one could take a while) your looking at more like £4.5k all in.

I think it could if you take into account the time its off the road and the associated costs of that, plus the resulting insurance cover problems from day one onwards.

If you are really into your aerotops than it may be beneficial to turbo an NA version but for Hardtop owners i still think the selling yours and getting a TT option is the way forward.

Yeah thats just it my car has got to be an aero. I don't want a non aero would rather go without the turbo's. Gawd did I just say that???

And the price difference between turbo and non-turbo aero's is massive. They are almost twice the price, For a couple of turbo's and a leather interior, oh and retracting wing mirrors lol.

The insurance issue is a valid point but at 330-350 horses the turbo converted NA is gonna show a standard 280 horse TT a very clean pair of heels, and probably the UK spec motor would flush with embarrassment a little as well.

So come on someone must know a man that can fit one of these kits.

My NA aero has all of that..... apart from the turbos (and its a facelift which none of the GZ aeros are)

Am I that bothered?? Used to be, can't be arsed with spending a huge amount on a car I can't get anyone to insure, its not easy sorting that at the moment let alone with mods like that!!!

Enjoy your car and do what I did, get a boyfriend with a TT!!!!!! :p

Thats because theres a lot less TT Aeros ;) they were only made from 93-95 unlike the SZ which was made for much longer. They also don't have retracting mirrors as they aren't facelift cars, so they are just normal heated mirrors.

You obviously aren't that committed to turbo ownership then!!

I would be really interested to see how this goes though, as I say it was an idea I tinkered with for a while, but chickened out of.

Good luck

A supercharger will be fine if you dont want very much power but if you want to go REALLY fast you will need a single turbo , like i said theres plenty of N/A conversions in the states running with the original turbo cars in performance terms , either that or fit a small block chevy and get better performance / sound and reliability !!! A 500hp sbc would be very cheap and reliable with no lag and monstrous torque and easy to fit .

I bet thats cheap as chips an easy to fit lol.

I only ha ha he says only! want 320-350 horses so a supercharger should give me that but its just not available as an option cos of all you turbo-nutters out there.

However if anyone has a 5 litre jobby they want to chuck in my car for me please do let me know lol.
