GP Masters

Funny title for a series that mostly contains midfield and tail end ex F1 drivers. I had a look through the runners and riders and didn't see very many 'Masters' in it.

Seniors golf or snooker may well be decent entertainment but the race today was cringinly embarrasing. Motor racing is about driving a car on it's (or your) absolute limit. None of the guys 'racing' today has the need or inclination to do that.

Hopefully the series will die through lack of interest before one of the drivers has a hefty shunt and does it for them.

Just come back from Silverstone, absolutely right. Some of the drivers had some "pedigree" but the others wel :( and the cars, i mean wtf they sounded awful and didnt look quick either, i think the f3000's were quicker in the same conditions and sounded so much nicer. The race of the day was the

Thoroughbred Grand Prix with cars from the 60's-80's and the performaances of the drivers in that race certainly put the "masters" to shame.

Crap weather, crap series, complete waste of money and fuel. Highlight of the event was Alex Caffi taking a piss behind the metal armco with the whole grandstand in attendance :D

Just got back myself m8 -took 61/2 hours to get there yesterday amazing traffic av Soop speed about 30 mph!!

Sat in the pit lane grandstand huddled round a polo mint - bleedin freezing.

Thought the best bit was when someone hit a marker pole at the entrance tothe pit straight spun a 360 and carried on - wow was one of the old boys as well.

Anyway I bought a hat lol

Mansell has a bad weekend altogether.

First, the makers of the engines discovered hairline fractures in the cams from the previous race so used different profile cams for this one, but with them not being properly tested about a dozen or more engines blew up in practice early in the week.

So the engine makers have been working solid for the last 3 days rebuilding all the engines.

I think Mansell had a water pipe burst during his qualifying which caused him to spin out (water on rear tyres). He didnt have time to get it fixed and get back out...hence he started so far back on the grid.

He then suffered from an exploding diff as he made his way from the pits to the grid (they didnt realise this was the problem till he retired later). He came in after the 1st parade lap as he spun out and said the car was undriveable.

They found an alignment issue with car and corrected it so he went back out and spun again.

Credit to him and his team though, he did make 3 attempts to join the race.
