Spelling, Grammar etc does it really matter?

i'm not too bothered about the spelling and grammar, I mean I make mistakes from time to time too, as I'm sure we all do.

But Txt speak is a big resounding no I'm afraid - the only reason for it is when limited to a number of characters, but even in mobiles these days its not needed - you can link 2 or 3 messages together AND txt's are so cheap / free that it doesnt matter if you use a lot.

I'd agree with the above comments. The odd spelling mistake doesn't matter but I can't be bothered with text speak. One of my bosses is properly anal about spelling and will go and get a red pen to cross mistakes out like some sort of primary school teacher which gets a bit annoying. Saying that, I will edit my own posts if I notice a mistake.

There are some dyslexic, uneducated, forgetful or just quick-posters.

Should they be banned or reprimanded? Of course not --- this is not a grammar school, it's an automotive forum.

We exchange knowledge, ideas and tips.

Then there are annoying posters using text-language as a means of showing-off (not sure what exactly)

Now that's different, isn't it?

If you are comfortable with judging without actually meeting someone then no I suppose it does'nt.

Well, you have an opinion about what I'm like, don't you? But you haven't met me. What's the difference?

I don't particularly care what somebody is like in real life.

If somebody is too lazy or thick to write a readable post then I form my opinion from that. I don't make assumptions about what they're like in person. I'm sure Supra Lover does a lot of work for charity and feeds stray kittens but his posts on here are unreadable and ill thought out shit, and yeah that's what I judge him on. It's all I have to go on

personally, i like good grammer and correctly phrased sentences, makes life a lot easier. but, i also don't mind if their is non excessive use of badly written English.

text speak does get to me on a forum, where it only takes a few more keystrokes to form the sentence. takes me longer to decipher, than it would to type it out. its different if its on a phone, where you have to got the text way.

in my mind, treating each other with respect and friendship matters more. i can swear with the best of them, but i do find it tiresome the way some posts just seem to be a verbal attack on someone, and excessive bad language.

in life outside of forum, i will help anyone who is friendly, respectful, or helpful.

so glad i found another thread to write in today, lol :D

Wahey!! Great attitude dude :) :)

If I don't like the look of someone because they haven't bothered to clean their shoes or are too lazy to dress tidily/comb their hair etc. or are just plain ugly then I'll judge them as being not worth the bother:p :p

I made the same point a few days ago.

As for what people are like in real life I am now in a quandary. I actually liked some people on here in real life. Now I find their views abhorrent and I don't really want to spend time with them anymore.

So I'm not allowed to have an opinion about someone based solely upon their posts? Even though their posts is all I have to go on?

I'm not sure what your point is there.

Jake, you are (of course) free to form your opinions of someone any way you like, my point is that it's very difficult to forman opinion of someone based on only one aspect of their personna.

I know lots of people who are completely different in 'real life' as compared to how they present themselves on a forum! Surely it's better/wiser to judge someone based on a little more than how they write? :)

To be honest (just like yourself) some of your posts get right on my tits, do I judge you on them? no I don't as that would be wrong to judge a person before I actually meet them. Obviously there are circumstances that yes you can judge a person ie Adolf Hitler to name one, but with posts on here no I have not got an opinion on you Jake, if and when I meet you then I will have an opinion on you.
