Since I've upgraded to UK brakes (fab BTW), I've noticed that in certain conditions, when I press the brake pedal (pressure doesn't seem to make any difference), I get a solid metal on metal tapping noise. As an educated guess, I'd imagine that it was the pads being knocked onto the discs by the calipers and there being too much slack. I have exactly the same thing on my scooby which runs AP calipers. So for those techies out there: 1. What is it? 2. Is it a problem? 3. If so, how do I fix it? I draw some comfort from the fact that I have heard a very similar noise before in another very different car. However, given that car is also mine, I'm wondering if it is something to do with me. Could be that your discs are warping when hot (I presume that you fitted new discs when you put the UK calipers ?), or that your spring clips are 'flapping' ?? So when do you hear the noise ?? No it definitely isn't warped discs - they're brand new and there's no vibration or wobble when stopping from many leptons - the UK brakes are by far the best OE brakes I've ever had. I get this noise even if I'm pootling in traffic - the pad doesn't even have to be doing any work. The moment I just dab the pedal, there is a small click - sometimes from the front, sometimes from the back, sometimes from everywhere. It is probably slightly louder if I mash the pedal, but the pressure doesn't seem to affect the noise. To be honest, I don't notice it when I'm 'making progress', but this could be because the ambient noise is much higher. Also, it doesn't always do it. Fluid problems will cause very long/soft pedal. Get Carbon/Kevlar pads such as Porterfield R4. This discs will warp before the pads fade - I know! The R4 pads are race spec and produce a lot of black dust, but they will stand up to repeated 130mph - 140mph stops. I also use AP racing fluid and s/steel Goodridge hoses. Was caught doing average of 148.2 mph on the A3 north of Guildford. My advice ... don't get caught ! My advice - Never do that in France or Belgium, you won't see your car again. I already get huge amounts of the black stuff already so I am really looking forwards to getting more ... ! I might invest in some new tyres as well .... the only problem I have to overcome is the 19" radius ... wonder if i could stretch some 18" tyres onto my 19"s ??? I really fancy getting some Yokohamas as i have never had those on a supra, only on other cars ... if anyone has run Yoko's and has any comments (either way) then let me know before I order them ! Give the Yokos a miss. I had the AVS's on and thought they were great until I tried Bridgestone SO3's. Goodyear F1's also come highly recommended.
