Tricky-Ricky
Just got a noise complaint from the council, about "revving engines" i suspect it may be a neighbour who i have had to make a complaint about in the past, and quite valid to, but thats another matter! i wouldn't mind if i thought it was genuine, as i have no desire to be a noisy barsteward, i work on my car quite a lot but only tend to run the engine to make adjustments maybe once every couple of weeks for about 20 mins, and then i would not rev it to more than 3K a couple of times, i made a baffle for my exhaust because i don't like loud exhausts either:rolleyes: and i live on a main road with heavy and noisy traffic anyway! In fact i think i will contact the council and have a chat and see if i can find out if its a genuine valid complaint or not, as if it is i will quite happily try and quieten the exhaust some more! Anyone have a proper baffle for a HKS 5" exhaust?

Kopite
I had a complaint made against me because my housealarm went off while i was away, threatened with a £5000 fine. Council asked me what steps i was going to take to make sure it didn't go off again..... i'll try and ask the people attempting to get in to be quiet

Tricky-Ricky
Is your exhaust 4" or 5"?? I didnt know they did a 5. I'l go and check;) Thanks for the advice guys, i have now talked to the council and explained my side, the guy i talked to seemed very helpful and said he had no intension of taking it any farther at this point , and after asking the right questions, although he can't tell me where the complaint came from, i got the distinct impression that its down to one of two busy body's with nothing going on in their lives, so the next time i see them i will drop a couple of very candid comments just to see if i can get a rise;) anyway i said to the guy at the council if he gets anymore complaints to contact me and i will see what i can do, it pays to keep the keep the official contact on side;)

Kopite
"Oh a house alarm is going off, I'll phone the council to complain - that's a much better idea than finding out if it's being robbed!!". That's what i said to the bloke on the phone - there's a reason a house alarm makes noise! Was chattin to the neighbours, the same people across the street had complained when his car alarm was going off as his stereo was being stolen. Again instead of doing something productive, a complaint about the noise was made and they didn't bother informing anyone about the car being broken into TWATS /vbb/images/smilies/bbcode_shock.gif

Tricky-Ricky
Just resurrecting this as i have just had another bloody letter from the council noise dept! now this is really starting to annoy me Since the last letter i have been even more noise conscious, i don't use the car that much, and i certainly dint rev it more than necessary to move it, i have started to notice that the guy who i'm sure is responsible for the complaints looks out of the window every time its started, Anyway i will be phoning the council to talk to them, i'm actually tempted to get them to test it just to have some ammunition, as i'm sure its not that loud! My other thought was to play him at his own game and send the guy a solicitor's letter, saying that if he continues to make unsubstantiated noise complaints, i will be taking a civil action out against him but then i thought why go to the expense of that! i could just knock up a bogus one not stating any specific names, threatening legal action should he continue i will point out that this guy is about sixty and not very clever, in fact a downright miserable grumpy bastid so i think it would take him a long time to figure it out I have an idea on how to word it but if anyone else has any ideas please feel free __________________
Havard
I don't know how things work in Sussex but instead of a solicitors letter I would send him one of these!! That would get the message across much easier!! Remember to attach an advert for a reputable window company to it aswell!! H. martin_a
Get the council to send him a letter. Harrassment and a waste of thier time and everyone's council tax. If they know there is no case to answer they should tell him to shut up themselves. 5t.

Ark
Get a noise test done, so you can prove how loud your car is, and back that up with notes on what you've done to control the volume. Also if you have a very recent MOT certificate that normally guarantees your safety, because a subjective (ie, un-tested) noise test is part of the test - if it's been approved as road-worthy through MOT, you should be OK. Tricky-Ricky
The main thing that really gets up my nose is the fact that my car is not loud, i do not rev it, in fact i only use it two or three times a week! its just the fact that its the total injustice of it that incenses me

Chewie
I've got a standard exhaust. The neighbours 'complained' about the noise but it's just a burble. They're just jealous. Wait til I get the Blitz Nur Spec.
R3DG3CKO ROB
A friends parents went on holiday and came back to find a letter from the environmental health department because their car alarm had been going off while they were away!!! Stupid thing is that someone had broken into the car and taken everything they could!!! No one went to check why it was going or even called the police!!! Just complained to the council!!! Really neighbourly... lol
flukey-lukey
I don't know how things work in Sussex but instead of a solicitors letter I would send him one of these!! That would get the message across much easier!! Remember to attach an advert for a reputable window company to it aswell!! H. Thats how they do it round here too. The old guy (70-ish) accross from my house lives on his own started complaining about his next door neighbour building an extension as he thought it would block his sunlight etc etc (the usual excuses) Anyway the guy building the extension is known 'not to be messed with' and has had his house and garage raided by police (5 cars in total) 3 times this year. So, its 4am and I hear 'smash, smash, smash, smash!!!' And run outside to find two chavs he had hired to put every window on the front of this old guys house though running down the street! Because I was half asleep at the time I thought they had smashed the supra up, thank god they hadn't, but I did feel a little sorry for the old man. Looked on my cctv the next day...it took me 32 seconds from the first smash to me being outside fully dressed and running up the drive Sorry, a little off topic but I've never told that story before... EDIT: The old man doesn't complain anymore and the extension has been built
Ewen
One side of me the guys half deaf, the guy on the other side loves big engines of all kinds so I'm lucky I guess. The only problem I've had with a neighbour (a few doors up) was with my wifes / sons / daughters cars legally parked on the road opposite his house. He had a go at me once when I was washing the car. It got bad, but as hes old I backed off and let it go. We then had a load of dog poo appear at the foot of our drive every other day, and eventually I saw him letting his dog shite right in front of my car. He didnt see me, and I bagged it, stuck a label on it saying 'delivered to wrong address' and posted it through his letter box. Next thing is I get my nearest neighbour having a go at me (the old bloke told him about this) saying the old sods wife had Altzheimers and give him a little latitude. Last weekend wifes car had two tyres let down, cant prove it but I reckon its him.
ivan
I'm lucky too. The (older than me) guy next door bought an old Bonny a couple of months before I upgraded the exhaust. We have sound offs now.
