Thorin
Thought I'd show off some close up pics from my new camera. I was going to post some others where I'd been playing around with a long shutter speed but the upload kept failing and wouldn't resume (I'm on crappy dial-up) so I can't be arsed retrying. http://www.kulthea.net/new/ It's a Canon EOS 350D just with the kit lens. Still haven't figured out what everything does, played around mainly just with the basic auto modes while in Venice with some limited success in shutter priority mode for some night shots around 10 second exposure which turned out ok. Was at a wedding over the weekend and mainly used Aperture priority mode bumping the ISO up to 1600 at night and got some good results. I need to read the manual and see what settings the auto modes use so I can fine tune them more in the manual modes myself. Any tips or websites etc. with good info for novices greatfully received

terribleturner
Very nice. Reminds me of a couple i did the other week. What size lens did you use??
Thorin
What size lens did you use?? It's just the kit lens, 18-55. Was tempted to buy the body only and get the 17-85 image stabilised one but that would have been quite a bit more. I may buy the Canon 50mm F1.8 lens as it's only about £60-70 but other than that I think I'd best figure everything out before I start spending a fortune on lenses

Kittyclaws
Nice pics,, I also have the Canon EOS 350D. this is my 3rd Eos now, had the 1000FN and the EOS 5 before, sold both for a poxy little Nikon, which was not too bad, but it was very slow, so now back with a slr, and i'm very happy with, my next buy will be a 2GB card and battery grip

Thorin
Now searching for another walk around lens :0 China Nice photo. The Canon 17-85 IS sounds good but quite expensive, would be a good walkaround lens. Other than the 50mm 1.8 lens, I think the next one I'll buy is a 75-300. VELOCITY
Very nice, I will have to work out how to do that on mine, have not read the destructions like most people yet.
michael
I keep forgetting to upload my more recent pics and I'm ashamed to compete with you lot and your fancy cameras but these are some samples from the cheaper end of the camera scale http://www.megaboost.co.uk/photos/samples/ http://www.megaboost.co.uk/photos/cyprus-dec2005/ I have a load more to drag off the camera when I remember but really need to get out of the garden and go hunting for some inspiration. I used to visit http://www.photosig.com on a regular basis but it depressed me to see all those really nice pictures when all I have is a few snails, holiday snaps and my cats

Thorin
I am thinking along the line of a sigma 17-200mm DG with Marco lens Yeah I looked at those, there's a Tamron 17-200 too. I thought that image quality might suffer with it being such a large zoom range (although still probably better than most of these "super-zoom" compact camera's). Thorin
Right then, been out and about playing around with the camera some more today... Why is it that with a lot of my photo's (and I've always noticed this, even with my old camera), it can be a really bright sunny day (it was briefly!), but a lot of photo's end up looking like a usual overcast day in Yorkshire. Metering? White balance? I'll often end up with an overexposed sky and dull foreground. I know I can play around with the levels in photoshop later and fix a lot of this but I'd like to get them right the first time round. Get a leash for your cats and take em out for a walk, we spent about 6 hours walking around Horsforth and up and down the River Aire walking the dog and trying to figure out how to use the camera I'm knackered. Take the cam off auto mode and just play with shutterspeeds etc until you get results you want. It takes some time at first but after a while you get used to it. Have a good read of the instructions to. I never read them but did for my cam and found loads of little things i would never have found other wise. Oh and a mag that ive found that is well worth a look is Digital Photo costs about£5 but ive read and re-read the ones ive bought they have got some good tips and great photo shop lessons.
