Mike M
Just noticed this recently but the amount of heat building up in the centre console from the gear stick backwards is getting concerning, i pulled the gear trim today and i could barely touch the body of the car. Now I know the centre cat is directly under here and it's not touching the body but the stainless exhaust turns purple next to the cat then silver again as it cools. Is this the result of an old cat starting to clog? The car is running good just averaged 32mpg last tankful (mixed driving) and I can't feel any loss in power. Temp gauge bang in the middle. I don't have gauge fitted yet to see what the boost is doing. Anyone else experienced this? Cheers Mike
terribleturner
Just an idea, but im guessing no one has taken off the cat heat shield from under the car?
Mike M
Just had a look and there is a heatshield starting at the rear thicker part of the cat that extends rearwards past the joint for the exhaust. Cant see any others in that area. Cheers Mike
terribleturner
Yeah that's fine. It's probably just the right amount of heat tbh. I wouldn't be worried about it.
Mike M
Thanks, hopefully me just being paranoid. I searched and found someone else mentioning the heat in the footwell and centre console so I'm not on my own here. Mike

Mike M
Mines is 13 yr old too Honestly i did a 360 mile round journey with mixed roads and a couple of run ins with a scooby. By the time I was home I had just under a 1/4 tank left and she took 51 litres to fill. Amazed me too:blink:
flukey-lukey
My centre console gets very hot after a bit of spirited driving i just ignore it lol wow 32mpg... how would replacing the oxygen sensor help this? (sorry im dumb)
Mike M
Oh well thats good to know mate thanks. I believe the oxygen sensor when failing or fowled up forces your car to run rich giving crap mpg but I'm no expert on the ins and outs of why. (I've once got 65 litres into it according to the pump. The guy in the counter who I asked how come I got 65 litres into my 60 litre tank just shrugged his shoulders )
