Nuts!! Saga Cont.

This is turning into a right bloody mare

I've been on to loads of wheel people and no luck yet in getting a set of locking wheel nuts for my Speedline 1908's.

I've tried McGard direct in Germany and they have been really helpfull, although they don't do the correct one they've suggested a Toyota orig. part number to try PZ413-99683-00, mean anything to anyone?

Again, as pictured, the ones I'm after have a straight threaded shank below the 60 degree cone, it's this shank that people don't seem to be able to supply!

Been back to the guy I got them from and he now tells me this was a 'special trial fitment' for the MKIV Supra supplied by a friend at Toyota Europe 18mths ago, he got them direct from the speedline factory in Italy..................no wonder I'm having grief then.

I got some of these from demon tweeks and europa car parts, not sure if they are the correct size you need can you give me the diameter and ill check mine if not then you could get oversize and have them turned down on a lathe

Mos, these the same type as mine in photo. 60 degree collar and the straight threaded shank?

Turning down some oversize ones wouldn't be a problem but I can't even find them with the correct thread and the 15/20mm shaft!

Could you confirm the ones you have look similar if so then sure I'll measure and if you could sizes with yours this would be a massive help mate

Yes 60 degree collar 20mm threaded shank 1.5mm pitch rate (if i remember correct). I have had a look in my messy garage and at the moment cant find them but will look again and ill send you the one i tried if i can find them. In the meantime on the picture is

top - the nuts i currently use

next - the standard stud from toyota

next - elongated studs

bottom - an example of the nut but without the tapered collar (wouldnt you know id find that one though).(this one is oversize)

Have you considered using the elongated studs and standard tapered nuts, would prevent this problem in the future. From what i beleive the standards set by TUV are 5 full turn and correct torque on the thread the extended studs are 20mm longer than the toyota ones and so would give the same turns as youre sleeve nuts. i still need the maximum diameter and then i can do some calling in the morning for you

If its just a locking nut youre after you could even use one stud per wheel and locking bolts on that one extended stud

Yeah, too busy at the moment and I want them quick!

The extended stud seems a good idea, would prefer the longer nut though as it's less hassle to change.

These are 'normal' , what about locking, did you manage to source these too?

Another way I was thinking is to turn a shaft section and get one of our welders to weld it to a standard locking nut, this would give me the special key head with the correct thread depth.

I think you are correct, they are 12 x 1.5 thread. I've heard of the 5 full turn bit too.

Right then, The hex is 21mm a/f and approx 15mm to top of collar (fairly important as I've seen 'deep reach' types that'll stick out from the wheel).

Approx 10mm of 60 degree collar, max dia of this 26mm

21mm of straight shank, approx 15.5mm dia.

Thanks for the photos and help btw.

If you need them super quick i have the longer studs i could send then just return them when you get your set if you choose to go that way (which i think would be easier) To fit you just knock out the old stud and then washer and nut and tighten the new stud in. Finally what exactly is it youre after ie how many nuts and how many locking nuts ill have a good idea tommorow night if i can help but the stud offer is always there and locking nuts can be bought anywhere with a tapered collar (just not the shaft)

Mos, cheers for the offer on the studs, I'll hold out for the moment though

What I'm after is a set of four locking nuts (with shaft) either the same as my photo/dimensions or adaptable.

I already have 16 plain, shaft type, nuts that are correct for the wheels and came with them, just after a set of lockers to make up the 20.

Well its not good news at first i thought i had it got a call back after faxing all the details and they said yes, later on in the conversation it was revealed that they thought the nut was actually a stud so thats that one down no dealers here can supply locking sleeve nuts just the normal sleeve nut you already have. Demon tweeks want an acyual sleeve nut before they can say if locking nuts are available but it doesnt look good there either. I think the only options left are maybe try the U.S. or go the longer single stud with standard locking tapered nut route. I will post on Supraforums and see if i can turn up anything

Cheers mate, thanks for going to all this trouble

My 'contacts' are coming up with nowt too !

My last hope is Speedline Italy, trying to get some via the guy I got the wheels from.

If not then it may be the longer stud route, that pic is of a McGard nut yeah?

Even with what looks to be a 5mm shank, this would be a bonus when fitted to an o/s stud. What part number is that nut and is it the correct thread etc?

Also, where do I get the longer studs from and do they come in stock plus 15mm as I think 20mm longer may bottom in the nut?

Suppose I could cut the end off?

What do I need to remove to get the studs off ?

Amazing really, shows how rare the bloody wheels are I suppose.

Hopefully the above link will work its the U.S. McGard site and the part No is 24022 12 x 1.5 under the centrecaps / speciality locks part. I got the studs from Burnley motors in liverpool their No is 0151 709 5818. I dont have a part number and couldnt say if they do them 15mm longer but as you say you can always shorten them. I dont have the diameter of the sleeve so it may not be up to much but as you say it would be better than a standard nut. If you require my studs give me a shout i have had my spacers for about 6 months and still not fitted them yet so im in no rush.

Cheers, on the McGard website I've noticed they do 'Flat Seat Extra Long' Part number 23185. These have a 35mm plain shank with flat collar.

Well, what about getting these and turning a cone 'washer' to slide over the outside of the shank up to the flat seat of the head.

A 10mm thick washer will give me 25mm of plain shank, if too long I could turn down.

Doesn't say what the shank diameter is though?

Can you see a problem having a coned washer that's not part of the main nut, after all it's only a method of seating it and when tightened should act the same as if it were complete?

Mos, I've tried just about all, no luck !

Thanks for reminding me about Demon Tweeks, very helpfull guy there. Nearly settled on getting some McGard 23185's but this will mean turning the shank down from 17.3 to 15.5mm and lopping 5mm off the ends, oh, and making a cone washer too :D

Bit worried about the wall thickness left on the shaft but my standard ones at M12/15.5 o/d have enough meat so I guess this will be fine.

Pic of the 23185 attached

Yeah I know, I take ages !!

I'm letting my 'Italy' source exhaust itself first then if no joy I'll order these monday.

Funny thing is that these buggers, although McGard, are only available from Germany, 14 to 21 days delivery :(

Might get the wheels on by the end of summer.
