Nasty noise when getting full lock

when pulling into my parking space and putting full left lock on, there's a really nasty sound, kind of grating/grinding noise that goes through the whole car[sHOCK][/sHOCK] - not a nice sound, especially as the missus goes off on one when it happens..... It doesn't happen every time, just occasionally, and only seems to happen when going very slow. checked the wheels (19") and they don't seem to be rubbing, anyone got any ideas? :search:

spoke to Green peace who mentioned he had this problem and JEM had it up on the ramps several times and couldn't find anything wrong....

had a similar problem on the celica (although not as loud)which turned out to be not enough power steering fluid, so checked the level and it seemed fine.

it's like something has got stuck whilst the rest of the car is moving still, it seems to vibrate very harshly into the cab. had a quick read of the similar threads and may check out the tightness of the bolts underneath and around the suspension arms.

no, there's nothing that feels out of the ordinary, apart from the really loud noise and vibrations into the cab, the steering doesn't feel heavy or as if it's struggling, and it doesn't try to turn the wheels in the other direction. If I'm quick when it starts to happen and turn to the right it seems to die off quicker than just stopping. Like I say it doesn't happen all the time either which is a bit wierd?

PAS systems should bleed themselves. You would only get prolonged noise if it was sucking air in from somewhere, or as mentioned above if the level was low. Mind you, I've had a PAS pump run dry on a BMW and although the noise was awful I never got any vibration in the cab.

Mine did this some time ago, it turned out to be the dust covers on the back of the brake disc's, some how they touched the back of the disc on full lock, I don't know how, but I pushed them away from the disc and it hasn't made the noise since, and that was about a year ago.
