ardasaliah
Hi Ive jsut bought a Twin turbo, so very new to the Supra. Can anyone tell me where the Boost reading should be when the 1st and 2rd turbos kick. Ive also noticed that when no power is applied the reading is in the minuses(where should it be)iIS this OK Thanks
Timwildman
The pressure is in the minus because, the engine sucks air in, well when the turbos aren't stuffing it in So it's quite normal. Oh welcome to the BBS
SimonB
If you're talking about the built in boost gauge on the facelift (>96), then the gauge only goes up to about 0.5 BAR or so, so it will basically go off the scale at anything resembling full throttle. If you're talking about an aftermarket gauge that you can actually get some values off, stock boost with both turbos online is about 0.75 BAR. ardasaliah
Hi, The reading on my boost gauge is 0.5 bar when on the power. The 1st turbo kicks the boost gauge read 0.5. At about 4 4.5 RMP you can feel the 2rd turbo kick in. However the reading on the boost gauge rattles around the 0.5-0.6 bar mark. It does not reach 0.75 as suggested above. How accurate are these boost gauges? Hope theres no problem with the turbos Just one more question. What should the boost gauge reed when no power is applied and the engine is warm?? Cheers
SimonB
0.5 BAR on the first turbo sounds about right. Boost will depend on engine load, so you won't get so much if you floor it in second as if you floor it in 4th or 5th. With the engine warm or cold (makes no difference) and idling, you will get negative boost as the engine is sucking air in rather than it being forced in. Can't remember exactly what reading I get. Aftermarket gauges are usually pretty accurate I think. If you really have only 0.6 BAR at WOT in a high gear you probably have a boost leak somewhere in one of your hoses.
