Jezz
In France it's called the Supra Bi-Turbo. Its cos it sucks and blows. So they think its bi-sexual.
Alex
Ah cheers for that link. Good read. So I'd name the Supra's turbo system as a Sequential Twin Turbo No Sh1t Sherlock. Sorry but you really do write like you're trying to teach us all how to suck eggs.

chilli
lol yes you would call it that because that is what it is! still a twin turbo though, no wool over anyones eyes there It does what it says on the tin
imi
So I'd name the Supra's turbo system as a Sequential Twin Turbo, not a true Twin Turbo - as in two independent exhaust systems feeding the turbos that happen to flow air at the same time. Though that would just confuse the fools with the money. Hmm.......Very interesting point.................... Naaaaaaaaaaaaaah I still think Toyota know best. Uninformed
wkdtime
Whats the problem?, i see 2 identical turbos, both came out the factory together, just like a ladie giving birth to two identical babies, so 'Twin Turbo' and thus 'Twin babies' and not 'Oh congratulations darling, you've just given birth to Bi babies' Edit: Damn im bored. Homer
This raises the question though that if the turbos can run 0.8bar of boost as standard, then surely you can get them to run a potential total of 1.6bar inlet manifold pressure and not be overstressing the turbos (fueling/cooling permitted etc) albeit probably getting a boost drop off toward the redline? Yet I see reports of not to run more than 1.2bar boost as a guideline? Is it just not worth the risk? You really need to learn a little more about turbo systems. Have a search or if you're truely interested in answering your own questions order the books already suggested. Its twin turbo because the word mean "Being two or one of two identical or similar things:" I.e The 2 turbo's are identical. The wording of twin turbo's or otherwise has nothing to do with their operation.
Keith C
Twin and bi turbo are interchangable terms. Plus, the I'm pretty sure S4 is a parallel turbo system, with 2 identically sized turbos.
matt k
In the UK and the US it was referred to as a Mkiv Supra turbo although it does have 2 turbos, i think the point is it's turbochaged and even in stock form is pretty fooking quick! The fourth generation Supra was still powered by the familiar straight six engine. With the help of two turbos the Supra delivers a healthy 320bhp. The Mk IV Supra is no longer in production and it is still uncertain if it will be replaced. chilli
yeah and cars have twin exhaust and twin headlights too - not bi exhaust and headlamps. Call anything 'bi' on a members car and they are likely to get the knock lol
