Just thinking back to when put a ltr of 0w30 in my it pretty much started slipping

straight after!??? Coinsidence, anone care to comment?

Also if this is the case an the oil is making it slip...do i need to replace the clutch? If so, all of it or

just the clutch plate? and the flywheel?

Just trying to save some money!!!

An oil change doesn't cost much so you could try that but I cant remember what the current favourite is....

Unless you've got a rear crank seal leaking, I can't see how changing the oil would make the clutch slip. Either way, the box will need to come off sooner or later.

I'd say it's coincidence. IMO your clutch is most likely in need of changing.

:yeahthat:

PArt of what has confused me is that i have just fitted RLTC, and went out to test it was running ok. Being a child i thought i would try the Launch Contol even though the clutch is slipping.

So i tried it, wheels spun a goodun on launch (dumped the clutch to fast) and the car just gripped and went, pretty much no clutch slip in 2nd or 3rd at WOT!!! But normally as soon as you get to full boost it was slipping, especially in 3rd and so on.

What makes me think about oil leaking onto the clutch is because when i gave it some stick (launch control) maybe the oil was burnt of the clutch for a few seconds so it gripped? I just dont see how a slipping worn out clutch can suddenly grip so well?

Any pros want to share their view?

So the clutch would slip more when it gets hotter...so howcome when i made it hotter (using the launch control) it gripped better???

I'd guess it was at a normal temperature UNTIL you did a launch. Hence it gripped at first, then as it got hotter, it started slipping again...

I cooked my clutch at Bovingdon last year. It's fine for day to day driving, but if I start doing some big launches it starts slipping very quickly again.

Well i have just been under the car and had the inspection cover off. I cant see any signs of all in there, but there was loads of black soot, everything was caked in it!!! Assume this is normal?

The underside of the car was quite mucky as the below pics show.

comments welcome...

Oh and while im asking in the 3rd pic is the front of the box...if that hole supposed to be there???

Rear crank oil seal has gone. The thinner oil will have made it more apparent (Had the same issue after using mobil 1).

That hole should be there, but there should be a plate covering it.

Get the oil seal sorted asap, I didn't and the oil rottered the flywheel damper, ruined the clutch (overheated) and rotted the transimision mounting. Ended up costing a lot to get fixed (£1.2k)

What makes you say that its gone homer, all the crap around that hole??? Take it the clutch + Flywheel will need to be changed aswell then.

I have got a oil seal just incase it had gone for when i do the clutch so thats ok then. But the question is did the oil ruin the clutch or has it lived its life...cars only done 51,000.

Question is do i attemp changing all this on my driveway???

If its engine oil it will only have come from one place and thats the rear crank seal, its fairly common.

Provided its not been left too long the flywheel damper should be okay, but you need to do a resistance test to make sure its not flexing too much.

I would not recommend doing this on the drive unless you have some good tools, the prop and gearbox will have to come out, then the flywheel, both are extremely heavy so not best for the driveway.

YOu can set the launch control to give you no sheel spin. Its a bit of an art setting up the Laucn TBH.

If your ever over this way drop in and ill sort it out for you.

Getting no wheel spin is the least of my worries at the moment!!! But thanks for the offer...how would you set it up though, just alter what revs its set at? I am using a .dat file from your site. Not the winter one but the one after that, "allows a bit of slip".

Errr, sorry if this sounds a bit obvious, but wet, on wet days, and dry, on dry days. If the slip is too restrictive or it's a really hot day, try a higher percentage like 10% upwards.. :)

Fair enough, it is very obvious!!!

Just assumed there was a ball park figure people use.
