any direct drive turntables should suit you mate if your only planning on bedroom dj but i have to say personally i would not use anything other than 1210s.

I have still got my mk1s over 10 years down the line and they are still going strong thats value for money in my eyes.

if its only to mess around in the bedroom, any direct drive decks will do to be quite honest

definitely agree with this to get start & you can always upgrade in the future from a cheaper set

i've found the 1200s just as nice as the 1210s but the cheaper Numarks & Gemini that i've tried have also been alot more forgiving, in terms of needle jumps & finding the pitch more easily

if you've got money to burn, then the new Pioneer CD decks are fantastic & you can still scratch away with them too!

personally, i found more pleasure in spending a little more on the mixer too to get some of the extra bits like flange effects & sample recordings too

and one other point - if you decide its just a flash in the pan and get bored 2 years down the line, you can nearly gaurantee your money back on resale prices with 1210's

As for a mixer, my top3 favs are

1. Pioneer DJM-500

2. Elcar Nuo 5

3. Vestex PMC-05

Or if your lucky enough scarring ebay - The Intimidation Don II, one of the best mixers ive ver used in my life, gold dust but worth every penny

and for monitoring a nice set of Beyerdynamic DT250 headphones

Having worked my way up to Technics through the ages, I wouldnt want to settle for anything less than Technics. I dont mean that as a snobby comment by any means so peeps with different decks dont be offended :)

The Intimidation Don II is the Holy Grail of all mixers I agree. I used to use one of these when I worked in a record shop. When they shut down I wanted to buy it from them but the opportunity never appeared :(

There was an Intimidation Blue on ebay a few days ago. Was tempted but youd always wish it was the other version!

The 1210's are a benchmark turntables although for the money the features are not exactly "plentiful" not that you need many anayway, again i would recommend 1210's or Numark TTX's Trust me i know (I own a business which deals with DJ equipment and am a DJ myself used Technics, Vestax, Citronic, Numark, Reloop, Gemini)

Remember that its how you feel with the decks also so its best to get a top 3 (Technics, Numark, Vestax) and then try them in person to see how you like the feel.... if you want any prices on stuff then please just PM me mate :)

Also if you want to go the CD route i would only recommend the Nurmark CD Decks (CDX Direct-drive CD Turntable), they are almost like the real thing, also they do a Hard Drive version for MP3's which is great to (Numark HDX Hard Drive CD/MP3 Deck) but then they are very expensive :)

Oh if you try going to my website i am having trouble with my host so its not really working sorry :(

well...if your thinking of playing in clubs id definatly go for the mk5's personally

thing is ,its much easier for a dj to turn up at a club now with just a laptop.

instead of record cases full of heavy vinyl that can scratch so easy.,

its only the old school dj`s that still refuse to even contemplate software.,yet its sooooooooooooooooooo

much better.

must admit i do agree, would be so much easier to get a small laptop with a few mp3's and a mixing programme. Can't knock it till you try it i suppose, thinking about it it'd be so much cheaper to buy a record from iTunes or whatever rather than paying 8 squid for a single on vinyl. Think i probably fit into the old school catagory though. HAHA

HI toyotatom,

Well if your just going to use the decks at home with the vinyl you have already collected over the years and more importantly you feel comfortable with - then Technics are without doubt the right choice!! and as has already been said they will hold their value over the years!

The PC route is a great one if you have the inclination, you would also need a next gen mixer that incorporates midi mapping to make the experience all the better, this will just make using software like Ableton and Serato Scratch much easier as you can map to the mixer to control the PC.

Mixers will just depend on how many channels you require, the truth is the output quality on the 2 channels mixers isn't as good as the 4 channel but you can have just as much fun on either! The DJM500 is now a discontinued mixer (as mentioned earlier) your choice in Pioneer with great ouptputs would be a DJM400 great 2 channel with effects/sampler, DJM600 classic 4 channel effects mixer and the DJM800 midi mapping/usb/and more effects very nice!! I do agree that the NUO5 is right up there as well (digital mixer with an amazing crossfader and assignable effects via website)

If you want to chat about anything DJ related then just give me a call mate! I would be only to happy to help.

Probably not of interest, but thought Id mention that Im selling my nearly mint 1200s and Vestax PMC-05 Pro mixer. All boxed, with lids, manuals etc. Looking for around 500. Would take less for collection tho (man they are heavy!).

edit - in Reading btw
