Guest invazn
hi guys, done a bit of research and i've found some very good information. i've just recently purchased myself the RLTC unit and will be having it installed to my j-spec VVTi 2JZ-GTE in the near future via my mechanic. he's very knowledgeble with supras however, has never fitted a RLTC unit before so i decided to do a little research for him prior to the install. now, i've stumbled across this thread while searching and it seems this is the only issue when it comes to fitting the RLTC to a VVTi supra - everything else is covered in the manual supplied via racelogic. is this correct? https://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=70518 my second question refers to the standard traction control system. has anyone witnessed any problems (i.e. error lights and whatnot on a VVTi system) when removing the OEM traction computer? the VVTi utilises a drive-by-wire system and its my belief that there is only 1 butterfly vavle in the throttle body that controls both throttle and the standard traction control system? pre-VVTi 2JZs have two and since the butterfly is a constant restriction in power on the motor, people have had it removed. is there any way on getting around this with a VVTi motor? thanks in advanced for any help offered. Alex
You cannot remove the OEM traction control from a VVTI without changing to an aftermarket ECU. You just turn it off every time you start her up. Other than that it works fine once you've worked out which wires you need to splice into.
Pete
Alex is spot on. You have to turn it off everytime you get in the car (well, don't HAVE to but it can interfere on big slips). If you find a way of disabling permanently via a switch modification please do tell The info in the thread on that link is correct too. Guest invazn
so what you guys are trying to say is that with the RLTC in, i'll still have the OEM traction control working simutaneously as well?
Alex
It's all tied up into the DBW system, which is very very clever. Other than finding a way to automatically disable the TC on startup it's there forever. But it doesn't provide any restriction as it just shuts the main throttle when it does cut in. Alex
so what you guys are trying to say is that with the RLTC in, i'll still have the OEM traction control working simutaneously as well? Guest invazn
thanks for your help guys. can't wait to get the sucker put in.
Pete
It is very good. The software can be a bit picky though as to what COM port type your notebook has, also if you end up in a situation where it won't communicate with the unit, turn off ignition, wait for a few seconds, repower it up. Install a basic setup map prior to trying to run the car with it. The default one is not suitable.
imi
Only if you don't press the off button when you get in what if you were to pull the trac fuse off....surely that would disable the system. you would then have a flashing trac light in the dash - simply remove that bulb. Alex
Is there a TRAC fuse on the VVTi? Can't remember now, but it's not an option either way.
Guest invazn
Pulling the Trac Fuse disables the VVTi's FBW throttle too. which equals no drive.
RedM
Don't forget though that RLTC is far, far quicker than the stock TC so, even with it in, you'll never notice it.
Alex
Don't forget though that RLTC is far, far quicker than the stock TC so, even with it in, you'll never notice it. That's not right...especially in the VVTi...
RedM
It is on mine. As long as stock TC is switched off I've never (that n.e.v.e and r.) had it beat RLTC.
Pete
That's not right...especially in the VVTi... It's about right for my vvti. I really have to slip quite far for the oem trac to decide to kick in if I forgot to turn it off (and then it's snow mode time ). RLTC is so much quicker it generally sorts the problem before the standard system has even noticed.
nick_karkie
Hi, have had a long search and play around with the car but I have yet to solve my problem. I have an auto tiptronic vvti and like I have read there is no trac fuse, I cant turn the traction control off when the car is driving, only when snow mode appears, so how do I turn it off when i get in the car, button doesnt seem to do anything with ignition set to on, thanks Nick

nick_karkie
Just get an Apexi power FC - problem sorted! I would love to turn it off every time I start the car but it wont turn off, there is a button to turn it off but it doesnt do anything, the only time it does anything is when snow mode comes on, then the off button removes the snow mode. You should be able to turn it completly off with that. mine does, it says "off" on the top left panel in the dash:)
