J-Tuner going downhill?

I notice this months issue is a little light on content and it's not set to get much better next month either. Apparently there will be 9 pages of a bunch of geezers called Envy or something. I mean, talk about a space filler!

:innocent:

So do we get a preview guys? ;)

On a serious note I think J Tuner was never much cop anyway. Its technical articles seem light on substance and aimed at teenagers, it has a childish attitude towards makes of cars that aren't Japanese (ie by balnking our the name of the manufacturer!) and although its has a nice sperad of makes (not just bloody Subaru or Mitsubishi 4 wheel) drives it still has the air of "Max Power" about it.

It has an unclear target audience that they have to be careful about as it doesn't seem too well defined. It's not chavvy enough for the Max Pooer buyers, and not serious enough for grown ups.

Personally I find it an ok light read as it does try to focus on things slightly different from the norm.

I do like the idea of a club magazine, don't get me wrong. However, they cost a hell of a lot to produce, both in terms of money and effort, plus unless you can get decent, regular input from professionals, everything ends up a little lacklustre...decent photography, decent journalism, decent technical articles written by technical professionals, not just the half-baked opinions of someone who nailed a car together in their garage (no offense intended to anybody)...

Plus it's just a teensy bit samey - my missus gets the SIDC Scooby magazine every quarter, and though it's very well produced, it just Scooby, Scooby, Scooby - yawn. No variety.

Strongly suggest getting a business plan together before launching into something like this - a decent list of subscribers, contributors, articles, and above all the funds to run it - can the club sustain it?

A business plan? What for? I am assuming this was going to be produced as a PDF and written by the members for the members. The fact that it wont include Scoobies, Skylines etc is the thing that apperals most to me as I am a Supra owner (or was) and have no interest in other marques.

As for the need for technical excellence, well you only have to look in the technical section to see that we have a plethora of very capable people.

And judging by the photographs taken at JAE and the like everyone is almost professional photographers here!

I should think if any features were to be done the person/garage etc being interviewed would have tech knowledge (obviously depending on what the article is about - I mean, it could be broken down in to lots of sections).

I think it's a great idea, like Rosie said, lots of effort though.

You could also have the board Trader's provide articles too. Not just, we sell this, we sell that....you can get that kind of stuff from any of the Jap mags in WHSmith's but, project's they might be working on, what problems they found/overcame etc....(Details)

Oh, maybe they don't want to give 100% truth as it might show a negative and hamper their sales.....even though they might have turned the negative into a positive - they might not want to show any negatives….ah well, it was just a thought.

Perhaps someone could set a quarterly deadline for people to pen interesting articles on whatever they feel like, and submit them in Word format, then all the editor has to do is read each one, make selections and then paste them all together into a PDF file.
