SupraStar 3000
I was just looking at the club stats and it shows Branners was 2nd to join the club on 25-04-01, which is understandable as he's the forum daddy, but who is Mark Kindell and why is he first on 01-01-

He still has a silver Supra though although it is currently for sale.

chilli
well the forum didn't exist then obviously and that looks suspiciously like a null date, so I'd suspect it's just a glitch when it was entered
Bobbeh
I think it used to be a forum on supras.co.uk, maybe when Branners started up this version he was the first to sign up to try it out... or maybe John created an account for Mark to start as a test.. who knows

Branners
I cant remember the full details but there was a time when we moved hosts or servers or something and the Unix/Linux server software was such that an error got introduced for lots of dates, most notably the birthdays. Could be related to that. THe first members on the forum should have been me, dean barratt, justin foden, terry saunders and then a few others...but I may be wrong on that. Certainly those were the guys that helped me put this all together at the start and helped the club through teh difficult first year. SimonB
On UNIX (and many other systems) the date/time is a number which is the number of seconds since 01-01-1970 00:00:00. So that date is basically a zero or uninitialised date. Wow, that was dull...

mawby
Simon is very sad yet correct. The join date was null (blank) for some reason. I have corrected it and JB is now in his rightful place at the top.

In it's first month it had a total of..... 28 members! We are now on member 9293!

Class One
Looking at the members list shows some intersting (for Simon anyway!) facts. This forum is now 5 years and 4 months old! In it's first month it had a total of..... 28 members! We are now on member 9293! Thats as maybe but we dont have that many members. Is there not a way of weeding out those who registered but never joined and removing those who are no longer memebers? Would be good to have an accurate membership number on the front page?? Ian C
I think if we removed the ones who used to be members any of their posts would go as well, so maybe a filter of some sort to only count active members...? Mark Kindell is a top bloke btw He does my MOT, is a mean paintball player, and kicks ass in the online world of EVE -Ian
mawby
Thats as maybe but we dont have that many members. Is there not a way of weeding out those who registered but never joined and removing those who are no longer memebers? Would be good to have an accurate membership number on the front page??I already do some account pruning, hence the front page says "Members: 5,711" instead of "Members: 9293". Although most forum based clubs never delete accounts because it makes the member stats looks better. (I wont mention any names ) If a user has zero posts and hasn't logged in for 30 days, they get deleted - unless they are a paid club member. I don't delete accounts with posts, even ones dating back to 2001, because if I did all of their posts would be marked as posted by "Guest" which destorys some of the history of the post. I will be running a script soon (when I re-write it as we had one before the last upgrade) that will recalculate post counts for people who haven't logged in for a year. This should then make a lot of old accounts applicable for deletion as their posts are likely to have been pruned off over the years. The only cling-ons then will be people who have posted to the Technical forums as we never delete any posts from there. I can also modify the front page stats to rename "members" to "users" and then add a "club members" counter to show the number of legit, paid up club members. It'll have to wait until after the next upgrade though but that shouldn't be long now.
mawby
Speaking of pruning, it's long overdue. I take it people still object to off topic being pruned?
Alex
Speaking of pruning, it's long overdue. I take it people still object to off topic being pruned? Prune away Especially Mallet's Mallet...as I won't lose any posts that way
mawby
Prune away Especially Mallet's Mallet...as I won't lose any posts that way lol, pruning wont affect post counts anyway, hence we have loads of ancient accounts that have not been deleted already. EDIT - Although I'm very temptated to go and manaully delete (ie reduce post counts) the mallets mallets and NWS picture finder threads just to see how many people complain that their post count has dropped to 5!
