Prof. Monkey
I hate flying, its a family thing, none of the male members of my family fly, they were all sailors (no puns, please). Has anyonegot any tips to alleviate the dread (fear) that we might have?

Steviekid
I can get you some horse sedatives if you want! Get someone to jag you with the reversal at landing.
Charlotte
I hate it, or at least I did. Then I went to Poland on my own (normally I'm with someone so I can 'freak out' at them) but because I was on my own it helped, I had to be all adult about the whole thing. I also went to the doctors before hand and got some tablets to help calm my nerves. Also I took my music and as soon as I could, I switched it on really loud, shut my eyes and pretended I was in a car, it helped really! On the way back (New Year's day flight at 6.30am) I'd been out to celebrate new year and hadn't had any sleep at all, just straight to the airport from the club. It was snowing so I wasn't sure whether the plane would even take off but I'd had such a good night I didn't care. By the time the air hostess did the demo I was asleep. I woke up about an hour later in a full on deep sleep with my mouth open, very embarrassing. But when I woke up I had this wonderful view of the sun coming up and it just struck me how amazing it is to be that high up. I mean that was a really good flight, I'm going to Rhodes in September and knowing my luck I'll probably have the flight from hell with loads of turbulence and I'll hate it again, but for now I'm thinking positively. So, in summary. Relax, take music, perhaps try not to sleep the night before, don't drink, it doesn't help, get some tabs from the docs. Doubt you will have turbulence at that time of the year, Dont forget the fringes of the Med, are similar temperature, its only when you get a differential you get turbulence, such as over mountains. Alan999
My brothers missus was and went to see a hypnotherapist because she hated flying and we were off to America. It worked for her to she doesnt mind it now. One of my mates hates it and gets plastered at the airport then sleeps the whole flight. I went on a ferry to Amsterdam a few years ago and they showed Open Water, the one where they get eaten by sharks. It wasn't a very popular showing. Jezz
Just pick the biggest, meanest looking bloke in the departure lounge, and tell him his mum's crap in bed and gave you crabs. You'll be woken up when you land.

Charlotte
Do they have a lot of sharks in the North Sea then? They could've been eaten by giant friggin prawns, showing that whilst on a rocky ferry to Amsterdam didn't go down too well.
RedM
Shame it wasn't Titanic or The Poseidon Adventure.
Charlotte
The Poseidon Adventure. Is it about a sinking ship? I've never seen it.
edd_t
Is it about a sinking ship? I've never seen it. the ship cap'sizes (spelling) turns over and is sinking. they gotta get from the top deck which is now at the bottom, to the bottom of the hull, which is now at the top. the original was good. new one was a bit pants. merckx
I went to Florida a couple of years ago, the flight over to Washington was uneventful. But the flight approaching Florida was scary We had some turbulence which you get used to, then all of a sudden the plane plummeted just like a roller coaster. We must've hit an air pocket, women and children were screaming!
