was on my way home about 20 mins ago when i noticed something in the middle of the road i slowed a little and decided it was a bag or something but oh no im not that lucky as i got closer i realised it was a huuuuuge badger, by this time i couldnt get out the way quick enough and it it square on.

Its to dark to inspect damage properly but i can see its damaged my bumper in numerous places then gone on underneath my car, its unkown yet if its damaged the underside of the car im keeping my fingers crossed until i check because this thing was huge. Looking at the car now it has amazed me at what little damage it has appeared to heave done but things may change.

Anyhow just needed to vent a little steam somewhere as i am reet pissed off right at this minute the kit and toyota respray is less than 12 months old now ive got to take it back and repair the damage the little shit has caused

So,

You wrongly identified an object in the road, were driving too fast to be able to stop in an emergency, hit and possibly killed an animal and you're now ranting as if it was somehow the badger's fault. :(

Get a grip Rob, it could have been a child, and you'd now be posting this from behind bars.

You seem to show no remorse whatsoever, for more than likely killing a fairly rare wild animal, in circumstances, which by your own description, could only be described as totally your fault.

Hopefully this has taught you a lesson to check, and double check, that the objects you see in the road really are garbage before you decide to run them over.

Would you ket your child stand in the middle of an unlit road at 12 o clock at night?????

I have not mentioned anywhere that it wasnt my fault i made a big mistake and misjudged the situation and my car, and the badger unfortunately payed the price. Im not perfect and accidents do happen i didnt plan to go out and kill a badger last night you know.

despite whos fault it was am i not allowed to be slightly peeved by the whole situation???

thanks charlotte, ye its a pisser but im very glad i escaped with as little damage as i did unfortunately the same cant be said for the badger.

We have a big problem with wildlife on roads round here as there is a huge woodland area and nature park just up the road and acres and acres of greenbelt land in the area it was only the night before i noticed another poor badger lying dead on the side of the road 1/2 mile away from where my accident was.

Could have happened to anyone.. (even Geoff), in my long-ish driving career I've sent rabbits, birds, a big badger and a nice farm collie dog to the "great furry farm in the sky" !

The badger & dog both just bolted in front of me from zero distance and caused big damage (2.9 Granada Estate, so no competition really) thankfully both were killed outright !

If you drive a lot (especially at night) as I used to, it's just a matter of time and luck.

Big shame for the furries, but you can only guarantee not to hit anything if you go 25 MPH everywhere.

Re "rare" badger's, not true... you can see dozens of there round here, sunbathing on thier backs next to the roads in the afternoon !

"I" wouldn't, but that doesn't mean that it's impossible to happen. When you're driving, you've always got to be on the lookout for the unexpected.

Unfortunately last night the badger paid the price :(

I feel for your anger about the car, but at the end of the day, the cars going to get fixed, sadly the badger is just anothe carcass at the side of the road :(

One might be tempted to think that farmers blame badgers for TB, purely because they want to kill badgers, they love a bit of gassing them farmers (goes all Alan Partridge).

Countryfile last Sunday showed video footage of deer crossing at night in the Ashdown Forest, it was quite scary how they all just leg it across the road. I had a deer run across in front of me as I was bombing down the A63 to Selby, the road had open fields on both sides and I never expected to see a deer in that location.

I do recall someone on here saying they had hit and killed an owl many years ago, how unlikely is that?

edit, oh, and despite living semi-rurally all my life, I've never seen a live badger.
