Hi,

I need to replace my Tiptronic JDM TT Supra Clockspring.

Does anyone know if the clockspring from this model is the same as other Supras including NA->TT->VVTi TT?

The clock spring is the device that connects the components on the steering wheel to the rest of the car. In this case, its the airbag and horn (not sure if it does the gear buttons)

It looks like a halo about 15cm wide with a wire sticking out of it.

Its main function is to act as a guide for the wiring going into the steering wheel, but its important because it allows the steering wheel to turn without stressing the connection of wires.

People who have replaced their steering wheels will probably have seen it and perhaps disposed of it.

I need a new one because some drunk punks threw coke all over me when I was driving and it got into the steering wheel and stuffed it up.

Toyota Quoted me $475au for it, but ive seen people getting rid of them for

Surely if you scraped the coke out of the steering wheel, you'd be able to sell it for enough to buy a new clock spring, maybe even a new car :D

Just out of interest, does the tiptronic 1 have more wires/terminals than the standard 1?

Yes.

I remember coming across 3 different types.

1. Horn (2-wires?)

2. Horn & airbag (4 or 5 wires?)

3. Horn, airbag and Tiptronic buttons (6 or 7 wires?)

P.S. (Forgot about Air-bag wires?)

6 is the max wire allowance I have seen, but I'd love there to be 7! As I'm maxed out at 6 with horn, cruise control and flappy paddles, I only want 1 extra pin for the steering wheel controls! :(

I have a Tiptronic clock spring in mine and without an air-bag, there is enough wires for the horn, cruise control, flappy padddles and a change-up light.

The "?" is because I can't remember the exact number of wires?

But with a common-earth and retroguessmeasury, horn - 2, cruise-control - 3, flappy-paddles - 2, change-up light - 1 suggests there may even be 8?

Hmmm I'm 99% sure that I checked the tiptronic clock spring a couple of years ago and it was still just 6!? It would be great if it was 7 or 8!

On mine: Horn is 1 wire, Cruise Control is 3 wire, flappy paddle are 2 wires, total 6.

So I am intrigued to know how you have managed a wire for your shift light mate?

I don't have an Air-bag, which frees up 2 wires.

It still goes through the clock spring.

I just used the socket for an alternative purpose.

it does, but not through the white 6 pin plug, but that does explain how you added that extra pin for the shift light, mystery solved :) But I'm still missing a spare pin :( lol
