RICHARDA
Today I took the wheels off my car to give them a thorough clean and polish, so I thought I would use this opportunity and weigh them on the bathroom scales. Cripes, 23.8kg for the fronts and 24.5kg for the rears. (Wheels and tyres together). Thats nearly 100kg, I guess alot more than stock adding to the unsprung weight. Wheels are Azev M in 18" - 8.5 front and 10" rears with F1's allround. I had some old 18" tyres kicking about and weighed these at 10kg each so the wheels themselves are around 14kg each. Does anybody including traders know of any LIGHTWEIGHT 18's with a flat five spoke design (deep dish) in as near to stock offset as possible with correctly sized hubs, ie no hub centric rings etc or spacers which will clear UK brakes? Any ideas? Many thanks Rich
toyotasuprauk
Thats seems like a lot. I wonder how much standard wheels weigh?
Stonkin
Thats a lot, mine are about 8.5 each
colsoop
Those weights aren't too bad. Stock weights: Front with tyre: 20.84 kg Rear with tyre 24.72 kg

Need4Speed
Tyres are very heavy regardless of what the rims weigh.
Guest McMsk
just weighed mine CCW 505A 19 Inch with Continental Sportcontact 2 Front 265/30 R19 rim with tire 22.1 kg Back 315/25 R19 rim with tire 22.2 kg Strage that the weight difference is so small, but i weighed them like 10 times, left and right
JohnA
Even if the full wheel/tyre combo weighs the same as the stock 17", it will feel heavier to the suspension because most of the weight is further away from the centre.
merckx
The C of G is still in the centre of the wheel! Gyroscopic forces won't be the same though.
JohnA
Gyroscopic forces are the *most* important, and those will be higher (they go up by the square of wheel rpm) Unsprung weight is the next most important factor and that is dependent on total weight indeed. The real issue however is traction, the real reason behind such an 'upgrade'. Now that might not be as improved as one might expect. It might even be worse than that of a stock 17" setup done right. You have to make sure that the rubber is in uniform contact with the tarmac under all dynamic conditions - and that could take a lot of work to achieve when fiddling with the suspension and huge wheels.
