garetheves
I always thought that when doing a power run or mapping that the guys operating the dyno did most of the readings in a gear 2 down from the top one, ie 4th on a 6spd, 3rd on a 5spd. Is this correct?? Reason im asking is because mine is in at a local tuners for mapping and checking over and he is doing all the runs in 3rd, which confused me a little. Cheers. Kopite
For a power one it should be in 4th IIRC so that the box ratio is 1:1 Think Alex put up a thread somewhere called "How to Dyno"

garetheves
Can i expect the power reading to be different if the gears were different. Basically he was thinking it would make 450 Bhp in 3rd. Could i expect a bit more if it was run in 4th. Full spec in sig.
Jake
Dyno in the gear that gives direct drive (1:1). So that's fifth gear in a 6sp manual Supra or 3rd in an Auto
Kopite
yep 5th gear, i was wrong as usual
garetheves
So why are they running it in 3rd on mine. I thought it was a bit wierd because surely by 4k revs in 3rd the car is only warming up, most of the top end power is in 4th and 5th. So would my power readout be any different in 4th or 5th? Jake
Redlining a high geared car like the Supra in fifth gear is pretty high MPH. Maybe some dyno owners don't like puninshing their rollers that much.

letmeshowyou
out of interest what did it make Gareth?
garetheves
When i left last night it was making 433 with the fueling still way off the mark. The guy reckoned it would make 450 when properly set up. Picking it up tonight so hopefully will know later. Still wondering though if running it in 4th will give me a higher power figure because if it does ill give them a bell and ask them to do it in 4th. letmeshowyou
I take it thats an at the wheels figure?
garetheves
I take it thats an at the wheels figure? Doubt it, it will most probably be the Fly Wheel figure. Its a 6spd manual though so hopefully shouldnt a massive transmission loss.
