Replacement white dials done but......

I've just fitted the replacement dials I got from Paul E (200mph speedo etc) to the car, bit of a pain in the ass (and I've put the revs on too tight so its sticking - doh!) so its got come apart again!

Problem is, I set all the dials with the ignition on etc so they were all in the correct place, gone out for a test drive with the Road Angel GPS speed readout and the speedo's even more inaccurate than it was before :( At 20 mph I'm getting 30 on the speedo, and even worse, at 80 mph the speedo is reading 100  :(

Before it used to be out by 10mph so at 90mph it would read 100 etc. but its much worse now.

Any idea's on what to do to fix it?

My thoughts at the mo are taking it apart, going out with the faces exposed and on a quiet motorway setting the cruise at say 80mph and refitting the needle at 80 as I'm going along (a bit dangerous though) but will this work? Or does anyone have any better ideas?

That is exactly what I did, although setting the needles in the right place doing 80 is a bit of a tough job... good luck.. I did it at 40 and that was hard enough. It is also bloody tricky to get the revs to the right area as you are not really sure what it should be.. I splayed around with mine until the second turbo kicked in when it was reading about 3900 which was about where it was before. tick over settles at about 600 when warm..

the things we do eh?

Got it sorted. I think my speedo conversion is a bit dodgy ;) so it not brilliant but managed to do it.

The revs was fine because set at 0 with the ignition on does that in the right place exactly. The temp and fuel were easy.

I took the face off the dials and went down the motorway.

Set cruise at 80 and attempted to fit, then saw a marked police car coming up behind  lol! He went past, so managed to get the needle on. Slowed down and noticed that I was doing about 32 and the speedo was reading 25 - arse! LOL!

So off it came again, tried to put it on at 40 but the road was well bumpy! Found a smoother bit of road and managed to get it on :D

It now reads 20-30-40 accurately, 50-60 not too bad and when I'm doing 85 now the speedo reads 90. So thats about right, my brother in laws Golf V5 reads 85 when he's doing 80 so I guess its now pretty much the same as other cars.

Sorted :D

Pics to follow on a diff thread!

Hi Matey

Just got your PM.

Im affraid it was just trial and error alothough ive left the speedo a few percent (say 4 mph) above the road Angel just for caution.

Its just a case of leeve the front perspex out take for a run.......remove and refit needle......take for another run....

But sounds like you got it sussed now.....
