New Child Car Seat Law

Ok - the girlfriend mentioned this to me the other day after she heard it on the news... didn't think much about it until I saw this article on sky news..... thinking quite a few of us are going to have problems - children UP TO 12  must be seated in a car seat from September. I know this is due to accidents etc... but this is going to be expensive for anyone with a few kids, plus extremely difficult for smaller rear seats like the soop

My son is five & won't take kindly to being told he has to sit in a 'baby' seat, but how are people going to get their 12 year olds in one?? My main concern is does anyone know if the group 2 or 3 seats will fit in the soop... either that or the girlfriends in the back & my son's in the front... haha

What a load of crock! I just bet someone thought "Hey, maybe if we make 30 million motorists buy expensive new car seats, we make make a bundle of cash in tax revenues, plus more in fines for those who don't want to..."

Ah, but here we see the get out clause:

Children aged three and over must use an adult belt in the back if a child seat or booster is not available, if the seats are already being used or if there is an emergency.

Just don't buy one!

And what about this:

Children under three are allowed to travel in taxis that do not have car seats, but they must be carried.

So mum must now carry 3 stone (maybe) of infant, which in case of a crash will have huge intertia, that the ordinary mum would not be able to hold...so baby goes through the front window. clever.

Hi, I have a britax trio in the back of my Supra which is suitable from 9 months to 11 years. It fits snugly into the shaping of the rear seats but I would only recommend it for children big enough to use the adult seat belt
