hi everyone i have a uk spec 6sp with blitz nur spec exhaust and middle cat removed otherwise its standard! i would like to increase the power to a REAL 425/450 bhp and am wondering what i will need to do this? i know i will need fcd/plugs/boost controller(which make of each is best to go for??) but will this give me the power im looking for?(without running silly boost) ideally i don't want to go over 1/1.1bar on my standard turbos! if not what else do i need to do? (and i do not have money to throw away budget around 1/1.5k! is this enough?!) also how much louder will the car be if i remove the first cat as i think its pretty loud at the mo with the first cat still in!! and will this cat HAVE to be removed to run that sort of power?? thanks for any info you can give me on this!!

Also are there any tuners on here that can do the whole job for me? (as i don't trust myself to do the work!!) i live in guildford but am willing to travel to get a proper job done! please let me know!! thanks again chris..

Hello mate and welcome to the club,

Realistically going double decat and running the turbos at 1.1 Bar boost with mods you have stated you'd be looking at around 360-380BHP at the fly and taking it to 1.2-1.25 Bar which you safely can as your is a UK you can expect to see anyting up to 420BHP depending on the condition of your engine.

But if you wanted a true 450BHP car you'd need a small single turbo conversion or Hybrids, the 550cc injectors you already have will be fine, so all you would really need is the single kit, something like a T60 or BL T61 and some extra fuelling gizmos to make propper use of the unit safely and adequately.

Or, you could go down they hybrid route if you wanted to keep the twins. Theres plenty of debate to which is the best etc. But generally the single is easier to work with in the long run and the easier to setup for big power.

I run a UK spec auto, plugs, FCD, FMIC, full decat, blitz NUR exhaust, greddy boost controller at 1.1 bar boost, blitz induction kit, and HKS head gasket, apart from that its stock, last dyno ran 375 at the wheels, not sure what that is at the fly. Most parts bought new but FMIC was used, close to your budget ish..! :)

You're pretty much on the money there wkdtime, but its worth pointing out the cost difference between a good BPU (stock tubbies) and a small single. From a 10 yr old Supra you can get to 420bhp (flywheel) with around £2k (if you do it cheap). To 'go single' figure at the Very least another £3k on top of that. Most proper single conversions cost around £10k.

I guess what i should have said to him is that to get a true 450BHP you'd have to go single or hybrid.

BPU at most should see you at 420BHP with a healthy engine, fuelling and I/C.:)

[email protected] in a UK car should put you pretty damn close to 450bhp I would have thought (providing your intercooler is in good condition)

If he wishes to push it to 1.3 Bar which TBH should be fine but not reccomended, he'll gain something around 15BHP as a good ball part figure He'd be expecting to see 435BHP give or take, but at that boost on stock twins i wonder what his EGT's will be like.

cheers for all the input so far guys! ideally i would like to keep the twin setup!! so i take it i WOULD have to remove the first cat to run around 400 bhp? how much louder would this be as i said before its pretty loud at the mo and i dont want to get pulled over for too much exhaust noise!! the car has now done 60k and has always been looked after (full service history) but the intercooler is the one that came with the car so 12 years old now! so not to sure if its up to the job! but i want to keep the auto spoiler so i presume a front mounted will be out of the question? what do you think??

Lol ill answer a few questions as im half asleep and have to be up for uni in the morning,

If you go for a Side mount I/C you can keep the front spoiler, but with most FMIC you will have to either get rid of it or keep it permenantly retracted out, your on the right idea mate, get the new I/C, it would be wise to change the fuel pump. TBH i wouldnt worry about if its pushing 400 or 450BHP, a BPU supra running at 1.2Bar boost on a healthy engine is devestating and thers not much out there that can keep up with you.

As for the cat the one nearest to the engine which pretty much sits vertically (most restrictive), if removed will make the exhaust note quite a bit louder and you should be boosting to around 0.9-1.0Bar with the tubbies spooling up a little earlier in the rev range.

Im off to bed:)

Hi from one Guildford owner to another!

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any renowned specialists in this area. Mine goes to Phoenix in Watford for any work. Well worth the journey.

The stock turbos will only push this sort of (real) power if Nitrous Oxide or Methanol are involved.

Boost will shoot higher than 1-1.1 bar in either case, and the first cat will have to go.

People like to quote power figures right centre and left, but getting a reliable 400bhp from a stock setup is not easy. The classic scenario is that punters get 370-380 flywheel and like to believe that it is 450.

Nothing wrong with that, it's all in the mind anyway...

The car feels plenty fast when it hits 4Krpm

That is not really an issue for comparison purposes, since everybody measures power at the wheels or the hubs (I'm not aware of anyone using an engine dyno)

The bullshite factors are added afterwards, on top of the temperature and barometric adjustments. Pub figures are good for stroking one's ego and bringing back the smiling punters. Nothing wrong with that.

My take is:

If the car can't see 12s, don't think that you *really* have over 400bph

And if it can't do 11s, try not to mention figures starting with "5";)

when people say a real bhp figure, surley we are talking about RWHP here.. not Flywheel in wich case John is right.. you'll never get that from stock..

320bhp ATW is what i reckon you would get from a bpu with all the mods inc cams, Auto box with a 23-25% trans loss
