DamanC
In compleate random drunken style i thought id dig out a random one. Everytime i put my fans on (recirculating or fresh air) it stinks. Putting the aircon takes away the wafte but having your car smell like a 60 year old piss stain when you turn the fan on isn't nice........discuss please

andrew7
It's fungus in your pipework...this is the stuff that gives you the "A/C sniffles" or flu-like symptoms. Apparently you can get stuff that you can spray into the pipes to clean them.... There is also a condensation drain plug which can get blocked on your A/C unit... bromy
You need to get your air con disinfected costs around 30 quid and after you have had it done whenever you have the air con before you switch the car off put the blower on full heat with air con off this stops the bacteria growing
JohnA
Toyota claim to have a special 'anti-fungus' coating on the evaporator. Maybe it wears off with time, who knows... There is a special spray you can buy from Alfrauds or motor factors. Follow the intructions and it might work for you. It smells like cockroach killer. In any case, it is a good idea to let it run on full hot for a while, so that the infestations roast and die. It's also a good idea to switch off the aircon a couple of miles before reaching your destination, and turn the fan on. This gives the system some time to dry before you switch off. JohnA
Dirty and Damp pollen Filter An excellent diagnosis:) Now please tell us where this filter lives inside the Supra body;)
bondango
Ok scrub that lol just checked....and...boom boom... the mkiv dosnt use a Cabin filter in the A/C - every other toyota does for some reason So my next diagnosis would be to remove the scuttle panel and make sure the drains arnt blocked with leaves and shit, as you will get water lying in there which will give a stale smell to the air being drawn in by the heating system.... as you said it actually goes away when using the aircon it suggests its the air being drawn through the normal cold/warm system..
