Pixelfill
Good luck getting a plumber to turn out. I had loads of problems with them in Preston. Just getting them to come and estimate was a nightmare, it was a fairly substantial amount of work too. I guess they are in the privileged position of being able to pick and choose the jobs. As for the exact logistics, get some quotes from each of the trades, and if you can find a "management" company that do both, get them to quote too. Then choose whichever seems to be the best value (not neccesarily the cheapest). Best of luck mate Mike
dangerous brain
I would say time and time again get reccomendations. You are asking for trouble if you just go through the yellow pages etc. There are a lot of people about that can do "general building" to a high enough standard but finding the one that will do the job in a decent time scale for reasonable money is the hard part. You wouldn't take your supe to any old garage and same with work in your home (or investment). Canvas your local freinds/relatives find out who has done good work for them (you'll find good workers in one trade know good workers in others). If it really comes to it knock on some doors and ask if they have had any good tradesmen they can reccomend (make like a survey team if you are a bit embarrassed). Good reliable work in the home will save you a major headache in the future.
