Guest DanJ
Have you checked acceleration 0-60 mph TT auto ? I have spoken with VTG ( volkswagen tuning group ) specialist in Poland ( I live here ) about Supra acceleration. It was standard conversation about japanese cars. They told me that it is very difficult to get better result than 8 sec. I was surprised, and I can't believe what they say ! They said also, that supra is very slow before 80 mph, after this speed car is really fast. I have never used any gadgets like a G-tech etc to check acceleration, but when I compare my supra with my other cars ( impreza wrx, astra gsi, vectra gsi, ) and my friends cars ( accord type-r, civic type-r ) it seems be faster in 0-60 mph. Have you guys some experiene ? DanJ
Jake
My 98 VVTi Auto was timed by JTuner magazine at 4.993 seconds for the 0-60mph.
supRo
That VW specialist is talking crap! They should stick to VW's as they are slow!
tbourner
Maybe the testers at VTG have very wide feet?
supRo
Maybe the testers at VTG have very wide feet? He he he:D Or they may have thought the Handbrake is an air freshner as the burning smell goes away when they put it down!
Guest DanJ
He he he:D Or they may have thought the Handbrake is an air freshner as the burning smell goes away when they put it down! :D Yeah, What is different between auto and manual, I mean different in 0-60 mph ? supRo
:D Yeah, What is different between auto and manual, I mean different in 0-60 mph ? I think the Auto is consistently quicker than the Manual. Search under 'Auto Vs Manual' !!! Lots of discussions! Ro
chilli
manual = 4.9s (or 4.6s in an independant test), auto slightly slower (but not a lot), something like 5.1s or so... do a search, these figures are common knowledge, even the non-turbo is 6.5s or so - nothing is even remotely as slow as 8s - these people obviously don't have a remote clue - don't let them work on a supra - EVER! supRo
8 seconds, lol... Get an accelerometer dude, and see for yourself John how accurate would an accelerometer thing be and also how accurate is something that reads the speed pulse signal like the Apexi digital speed/rev meter? Thanks, Ro
Carl
They probably meant 8 seconds towing a Volkswagon golf behind. I had a sub 6second to 60 car before, and my Supra Auto gets there faster in my oppinion so certainly in the low 5's unless you got serious problems. JohnA
John how accurate would an accelerometer thing be Mine is within 0.1 sec on the 1/4 mile Very freaking repeatable run after run. It is a pretty old version made by Race-Technology Got a pic bottom of this page
SUPRASUZUKI
The Supra which VTG tested probably had a VW Golf stuck in it's air filter at the time.[GRIN][/GRIN]

markssupra
Feck me, what a load of crap. I had an ST24 before the supe which was quoted at 8.2s 0-60, the supes much much quicker than that.
RiceRocket
At 8 seconds you'd be doing what...? 80-90mph?
chilli
depends what car and what mods, some would be doing 180mph+
RiceRocket
stock twin turbo i suppose... some do 180+ at 8 seconds!!!? can't believe that, quicker that a Bugatti Veyron
chilli
can't remember the exact figures off hand but it's in that arena for some of the crazy 8s 1/4 mile cars that are around! back in the land of normality I guess if you can hit 60 in 5s then an extra 3s should see you up to 90mph or so, 1/4 mile taking around 13.5s or so - not sure of the terminal speed of the stock car for a 1/4, anyone know that? RiceRocket
113mph i think (off the top of my head). Suppose those 1100+ bhp beasts would keep up with the Veyron
Matt Harwood
some do 180+ at 8 seconds!!!? can't believe that, quicker that a Bugatti Veyron Boostlogic 7.92 @ 182 http://www.boostlogic.com/videos/RaceCar/BoostLogic7.92.mov There are others too, but I couldn't find the links quick enough
Justin
After 7.8 seconds my auto is doing nearly 92 mph on this timeslip. Tell that VW idiot to read it. http://website.lineone.net/~jmoat/Pod/timeslip.jpg
Soop Dogg
not sure of the terminal speed of the stock car for a 1/4, anyone know that? Somewhere around 108mph. And the quoted 1/4 mile time for a stock TT is 13.7 which sounds about right as when mine was bog stock it ran 13.68. (Although Angies ran 13.48)
letmeshowyou
I struggled to break the 100mph barrier on the 1/4 mile when I was stock!
